Another Corner?
The Redskins apparently have made an offer to Rams DB Jerametrius Butler (http://nfl.com/players/playerpage/235032), a restricted free agent.
Here's a link to the story: http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/Sports/Rams/635CAB1E1427896486256E4F0071E08B?OpenDocument&Headline=Rams'+Butler+gets+$15+million+offer+from+Skins Is this a smart move? I thought we were fine with Bauman as our nickel back |
Depends on what we offer him. We don't have much compensation left, and he's far from a 1st pick. If he comes cheap he won't hurt.
|
Is there any compensation on this? If there is we defintley pass
|
if it's an RFA we have to offer something. I think we want him since Springs is injury prone and Ade Jimoh isn't exactly my ideal nickle back.
|
The compensation is a 5th round pick
|
He's better than any corner we could get in the 5th this year.
|
He played himself into a starting role with the Rams last year. The offer is $15 million for six years. I'd have to say this is another good move... insurance for when Smoot's contract expires?
|
We need Smoot back after next season, I think this would be insurance if Springs gets hurt, in my opinion.
|
Here's a slightly off the wall thought I had. I know Springs when healthy is a great man to man defender. However, I also know he hasn't been entirely healthy lately. So I'm wondering, could Springs play some FS (sort of like Rod Woodson and Jason Sehorn switched to FS) and Butler and Smoot play the corners?
I'm not saying this should be a permanent move made this year, but I wonder if a couple of years down the road this could be an option. Granted, this is assuming we don't draft Sean Taylor |
Smootsmack, that could be a possibility, but I'm sure Springs is slated to play CB first.
Going after Butler simply means they're looking for depth. Bauman is fine as the nickel back, but we need at least one more defensive back in case he goes down, or Smoot or Springs get injured. Certainly don't want to be in the position to have to depend on Ade Jimoh. |

Yeah, what's up with that? Is he really a fan of Ade Jimoh? When I first saw his screen name, I couldn't stop laughing. |
I hope he's not Ade Jimoh...I'd be upset that we poked fun at him.
Give him a little break, he was an undrafted rookie. |
Jimoh actually did decent but got burned a few times. Give him some developmental time.
Even if that was the real Ade Jimoh. He's playing, we're playing monday morning QBs. I think he has the upper hand! 8) |
I highly doubt Butler will be brought in to be back up to bauman. Butler was a starter last year with 95 tackles and 4 ints. those are pretty darn good stats and it will be nice to know we have 3 starter quality cbs in case of injury and 3 WR sets which I'm sure the cowpies will be running a lot once they get johnson and so might the eagles if they do wind up getting TO. it's not an expensive deal and I seriously doubt we could find a decent nickelback quality cb with the fifth round pick much less one who could be a starter for a lot of teams.
