Matt Mosley Predicts a Break Out Year for Thomas
Devin Thomas, WR: I realize this is going out on a limb. I still have a healthy fear of all Michigan State receivers, but Thomas is taking a much smarter approach this offseason. And I think he's ready to make a significant impact. And yes, a Redskins coach is whispering things to me.
Who's your breakout player in the Beast?
I definitely think that the last part is interesting, about the coach. I really hope Devin Thomas comes into his own this season. If he, Malcolm and Fred Davis pan out, and you add them to the weapons we already have on offense, this could be a pretty scary team. I really hope Zorn gives these kids the chance to shine this season. |

Thomas is saying all the right things so far, and it seems that the buzz around him has been pretty positive. If he can become a quality #2 this year and bump ARE to the #3 that would be huge for the offense.

I agree that ARE would be best at #3 WR in the slot I do not believe that he has the size to be a #2WR... |

I definitely agree. I think that the offense would be far better if Thomas became a legit 2 or even took over for Santana and pushed him to the #2 spot. If Malcolm Kelly works his way into the O, then he would be a great 3rd down and red zone threat, hell, I just want one of them to step up and be the #2 guy this season. I don't have a huge preference as to who it is. I just want to see a tall receiver become a factor in this offense, that could make it far more dynamic. |

If it works out this way....we're golden. I think he learned a lot about what it takes to play with the big boys last year. |

I think best case over the next few seasons is Thomas becoming the #2 this year moving ARE to the #3, then eventually Thomas becoming the #1 with Kelly as the #2 and Moss in the slot. That could be a sick WR combination. |

Definitely, I would love for that to happen. I've been thinking for the past couple of seasons that in an ideal situation, Santana would be a slot receiver. He's built more like a guy I want in the slot than as a #1, but that's just me. Before someone points out Steve Smith, I'm well aware that small receivers can be #1's, but I just don't think Santana's good enough to be a go to receiver anymore. |

The problem has been that every team knows the only other guy on the team they might have to double is Cooley, and he spent a no. of plays last year blocking in pass pro, then releasing for short safey valve patterns like a rb. But overall I agree that Moss can't be expected to be THE guy this year & beyond. It's been an issue for the offense since he got here - no legit #2 wr- and soon age will catch up to him. |

That really would be an awesome combo. I haven't heard a whole lot about Kelly's progress though, just that his knee is doing better. |
Re: Matt Mosley Predicts a Break Out Year for Thomas
Is it just me or has anyone else felt we need a reliable set of hands most of all. Seems like our guys drop a high number of passes, or maybe it's just at the most inopportune times...

Well I think dropped balls has a lot to do with age. In my own personal case.......nevermind. |

I think the other problem is he hasn't been able to be healthy for a full season lately. I think his injuries has cause his to lose a step the last two seasons. So let's say in '10 Kelley becomes the #1, Thomas the #2 and Moss in the slot? What does the team do with Randle El. Does he strictly become a punt returner? |

I agree, that's the main reason I don't see Santana as a legit #1 any more. I know there are plenty of guys who drop balls (TO, Braylon) but I wouldn't take either as my #1 guy. |

I think this would be big for Are as he is just one notch below a true #2 WR and if Thomas could become a real threat it would open things up for Are and Moss. Then you throw Cooley into the mix and JC would have some weapons. |
