Redskins Training Camp Preview: Running Backs
Redskins Training Camp Battles: TB - DC Pro Sports Report

By Spence | July 23, 2009
Today, DC Pro Sports Report continues its analysis of each position on the Redskins in preparation for the start of training camp later this month. We'll analyze each position and predict who will be on the roster at the end of preseason and who will not. We'll also figure out who will be starting and what everyone's roles will be. We began our training camp battles analysis yesterday with quarterbacks. We continue today with tailbacks.

TAILBACK

On the roster now: [6] Anthony Aldridge, Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright, Dominique Dorsey, Marcus Mason, Clinton Portis

Who will stay: Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright
More to come

It's been widely reported that the Skins want a change of pace back with Felix Jones-type speed. So, I really hate to say it, but I think Rock is gone. If Aldridge or Dorsey show breakaway speed and the ability to return kicks, I think Rock will be among the final cuts.

I like Aldridge's speed. To me, he is the guy to watch in camp. If he shows an ability to hit the whole and rip some long runs, you never know. The Skins are lacking that real quick, shifty back.

I also hope that Jim Zorn learns this year how to use Ladell Betts, because clearly last year, he didn't.

Rock is the longest tenured guy at this point right? He's had a lot of big moments for us but number one for me is Spurrier's 4th and 1 call against the Seahawks. If you are right SGG, I'll definitely be sad to see him go.

The RB spot will be the big shake up for the roster this yr aka a three headed monster
We will keep 5 RB's this year.....Anthony Aldridge is my wildcard he'll get 500-700yrds

Anthony Aldridge, Ladell Betts, (KR)Rock Cartwright, (PR)Dominique Dorsey, Clinton Portis

Why did the article keep calling him "Aldridge" when his name is "Alridge"?

I would love to see Mason make the team. he was a beast in preseason last year. Wouldn't be suprised if Betts takes a hike

I hope so. They need at least 3 backs toting the ball each and every game. The feature back is a thing of the past. There are probably 20-30 backs that could gain 1500 yards if they got all of their team's carries (Giants and Ravens have 3 each), but that formula doesn't work any more. Everyone needs to be a weapon, and everyone needs to be fresh down the stretch. No more running Portis into the ground.

I am a K-State fan so I have a special spot for Rock. Would hate to see him go.

Go Skins! Go Wildcats!

If he makes the team we can add him to the Redskins Misspelled Name Hall of Fame :)

I too like the idea of a greater committee approach but try convincing Portis of that.

Agreed. And while I don't want to see the Rock the man go, Rock the player may be at the end for us.

Well it's almost camp time so I guess it's time for that annual discussion about how Rock is getting cut.

8 years later he's still here.
