DJ Hackett has signed and is at practice
Training Camp Practice Report For Aug. 5
As first reported by Matt Terl on his Twitter page, D.J. Hackett is at practice on Wednesday. It appears he has been signed by the team, but no official word yet. Hackett is a 5-year veteran who played for the Carolina Panthers last season after four years with the Seattle Seahawks. He played for current Redskins head coach Jim Zorn during his time in Seattle. Hackett participated in Redskins mini-camp in early May, so he has a degree of familiarity with the offense. Hackett has 118 career receptions for 1,575 yards and nine touchdowns. Last year, he was a reserve with Carolina and logged 13 catches for 181 yards. Hackett was a fifth-round draft pick by the Seahawks in the 2004 NFL Draft. |

ditto, we already have a healthy competition going on at wr... |
Re: DJ Hackett has signed and is at practice
we definitely have enough younger guys at that spot. but i guess coach has some back ground with Hackett

Re: DJ Hackett has signed and is at practice
Good signing. R. Williams is out for 4-6 weeks so Hackett takes his spot & is about as close a replacement you can find in terms of age, experience.

Re: DJ Hackett has signed and is at practice
per Redskins blog, we also have a guy michael marquant from Eagles squad, but I can't find anything on him. Anyone know who he is?

Sounds like just another camp body. |
Re: DJ Hackett has signed and is at practice
This WR move should have little to no impact on the cap situation. Roydell and Hackett should offset one another.
The only scenario in which the cap is even a factor anymore is if we decide to bring in an experienced OT (ahem, Runyan). |
Re: DJ Hackett has signed and is at practice
Well, I guess we did give Hackett a call
Mixed feelings on this. I like Hackett when healthy, but that's not often. And I don't know what he offers as a special teamer |

I hear people calling out his name, but I get the feeling that he would demand more than we could afford. On a similar note, if the team is bringing a lineman to camp (and not just a camp body like some of these signings) it has to be a good acquisition like Jones or Runyan. Otherwise there's not need to sulk about the team signing camp bodies like Hackett or that DT they just signed. |

The alternative of counting on Heyer to get healthy, stay healthy and produce at the level we need for a whole season is much more scary to me. |

Schneed had sad we had roughly 1-1.5 mill in cap, so we would have to do a maybe a 3yr deal with 1.5 million signing bonus and vet min base. I still think its doable, and would like to see it, but I don't see it happening. |

As Ruhskins mentioned, these guys are basically camp bodies aren't they? I can't see us keeping them. Hackett knows some of the plays so he can run them against our D and the DT helps with some of the nicks on our d-line. Plus AH is liable to kill someone out there. |

If he's still around mid to late in camp & Heyer is nicked & Williams is still struggling (see RI today), history would indicate that vinny would look to make a move a la the Kendall & JT trades. At least Levi is a FA. Since Zorn has said that they're going w/the guys they have now at RT, the question is who would get cut to make room? How much time do they give MW? Do they look at him as being able to play in , say week 8? He can't go on the practice squad. |
