You know, it almost seems like eras, years, generations, you name it, since the Redskins had a solidified punting game. You know, consistency, distance, angles, placement, those kinds of things. Most of you know nothing about that, because you have not witnessed much of it in Washington over the past 15 years. And, as much as you want to criticize the front office, deservingly so, for not addressing some pressing needs thoroughly, like offensive line, they did so with punter.
You daily news clips all in one. |
Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
I am still not a believer yet. Every year they have high hopes of the punting situation and it never gets better; unless the NFL is doing away with the punt play this year, I am prepared for mediocrity.

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
I'm optimistic about him. He CAN'T be worse, plus has a good track record coming in.

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
when is the last time the skins have had a good punter? i know Matt Turk had a good season, or 2

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
Was Reggie Roby before or after Turk?

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
If Smith can't get it done we must be cursed at punter, because he's one of the better ones around.

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
Roby was here first. and also on the down side of a great career. R.I.P

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
I think Hunter Smith may have been our most important offseason addition. When he is punting well he is a true field position weapon. I hope that he can do the same for us that he did for the Colts.
|
Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
Well, the way I look at it is, can it get any worse than the past 5 to 7 years with punting. Hunter Smith's biggest challenge will be that half his games will no be on turf and indoors. We'll see in pre-season how that goes. he is also an outstanding holder. Now we just need to determine who the hell he will hold for.

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
I think he has had enough road games to prep for non-dome conditions.
|
Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
We shall see....It's one thing to punt the ball high and to the corner in a dome. It's another to do the same thing when you are punting in the Meadow Lands where the wind swirles at the end zone, or on grass after or during a rain storm creating foot planting issues. His only saving grace is he has been in the league for a few yrs which means he has been doing something right.

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
Back when the Colts were in the AFC East he had to kick in NY, New England, Buffalo, etc.
|
Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
Redskins P Hunter Smith is simulating punts for the coverage team. With very little effort, he is kicking the ball 50 yards against the wind.

Re: Smoke Signals: Redskins have a Punter Edition
When was the last time the Redskins had a solid Kicker and Punter? I thought the ST coach [Smith] might get the axe this season; but Zorn is a loyal coach and he might not even have the power to make that sort of change.
BL - for a team with a weak offense, having a good punter and kicker can mean a couple games in the season. |
