Had to go with Devin Thomas, although I debated Jarmon and Hunter Smith. If Thomas doesn't step up, then we lack another deep threat and the offense will stall again.

Same here. Thomas steps up and makes a huge difference. ARE slides to the slot where he belongs.

Rak, by a landslide.

I thought about Rak, who should be a stud; Thomas, who I expect to see the end zone several times; and Bridges, who I think will end up starting a lot at RG.

But I think Hunter Smith will revolutionize our field position game. I voted Smith.

Orakpo, no question about it. When Chris Samuels says that a rookie is going to be a big time player, I take notice. Devin Thomas needs to go more than a week of training camp without tweaking a hammy before I stop doubting him.

DeAngelo Hall by a landslide.

Agreed.

Orakpo. With AH getting double-teamed, and assuming Carter comes back to form and pressure; Griff / Monty / will stay fresh and get a good push; that means that Orakpo will have a chance to do well.

He's learning alongside AH, playing against a pro bowler. I think he will surprise teams who have faced a weak and slow and old Redskins pass rush.

I think Orakpo is going to do very, very well. But if Thomas steps up as I expect he will, it will have a huge impact on an offense that needs a legit second receiver very badly.

Rak for sure. Did you see the way he gets off the ball. But the punter looked good yesterday at the scrimmage.

Haynesworth, cause he's getting Rak and everyone else on defense freed up.

My hope is that it's Devin Thomas, but I think a safe bet is Hunter Smith. It's been like a decade since we've been ranked higher than 18th in the league in net punting average (1998, Turk).

Hunter is solid on distance, and is also very good at directional punts. In this article, Danny Smith and Zorn talk about how last season they just abandoned calling for directional punts because they knew they couldn't count on the ball going where it should be. Not the case now. Field position is oh so critical.

I think Haynesworth and Rak will add to an already very good D. I'm not downplaying that contribution. But to see our punting game in the top half, maybe the top 10 or better will be so refreshing, and a huge help.

Think of it this way - our defense was 4th overall last year with a garbage punting game (setting up shorter fields to defend), and no ability to pressure the QB. So add Haynesworth and Orakpo (and thus an ability to create sacks/turnovers) and combine it with the ability to pin our opponents. Huge.
