See what Portis is saying.

Maybe we are getting predicatable on offense.. i'm not sure about that yet. I have to say this it seems at time that Portis tends to hit the line before the holes are created.. i think he needs to be a little bit more patient and slow it down a little bit.. I could be wrong, but I feel our O-line is not in synch with Portis and how he runs, which I am sure will happen with time.
I am very frustrated with the offense especially the offense. I can't believe that our running game is not that good when we have such a great back.. Our passing game does'nt seem to scare anybody.. I hope Gibbs can fix it in time..
My 2 cents..

Portis has been pretty vocal about this game and the season in general. i'd like to hear what Coles has to say about this game, the gameplan and the season thus far (and maybe his injuries). i know he's a quiet guy, but his silence right now is deafening.

I dig the way Portis is putting the responsibility on his shoulders. Although the responsibility lies with the entire team (not just him), it's good to see him man up and not be a prima donna... like Leon "this is my good side" from those budweiser commercials.

Daseal 10-04-2004 06:23 PM

haha, I love Leon!

Portis is used to making 1-2 cuts then hitting a hole quick. That's not exactly our style. I think we should form our style around him. He doesn't need much, just some breathing room.

"I know the team is depending on me to make plays and I did not come through," Coles said. "It cost us the game. We'll watch the film and get back to work to see what each individual can do to make this team better."

At least they man up about it. Now I just need to see somthing done by them next week vs Baltimore.

"Guys like myself, the team depends on to make plays," Coles said. "Right now I'm not doing it. I've dropped balls. I've fumbled the ball. Now, I just need to evaluate myself and try to get better."

i wonder if that includes evaluating his health.

SUNRA 10-04-2004 09:12 PM

If Coles rally evaluates himself he might find that he needs to get that operation as soon as possible. I haven't seen his explosive speed since last year. The toe is definitely affecting his ability to make quick cuts on the slant pass.

itvnetop 10-04-2004 11:52 PM

I agree Sunra... when i read that he bypassed the surgery, i thought it was a bad move. I'd rather him miss a few games at the beginning of the season (if he would have gotten it done at the end of last year) than potentially messing up his toe for the long term.

Daseal 10-05-2004 12:07 AM

Well, I remember when I criticized him for going to the Pro-Bowl instead of getting surgery a lot of people said the surgery COULD end his career.

MTK 10-05-2004 08:28 AM

Do we have some doctors in the house?

I'm sure Coles consulted all the physicians he could and made a decision based on the medical advice he heard.

Does it make sense to anyone that he would turn down routine surgery that would help improve his toe? The key here being routine, which the surgery reportedly wasn't, and Daseal is right there was a chance he wouldn't be able to play again so that's a chance he didn't want to take. Go figure.
