A nice deed by Vince Young

I thought this was a nice story. Given how much the media blows up stories whenever a player does something terrible, I'm glad ESPN put this up on their website. Indeed a good deed done by Young.

Wow, that's really cool. Young just scored some humanitarian brownie points with me. My dim opinion of him has brightened.

I think we tend to forget that most of these guys are human beings off the field. It only takes a few Vicks, Stallworths, and Pacmans to dehumanize these guys as a group. Glad to be reminded of the positive side for a change...wish more of the media coverage focused on the all the good these guys do.

Check out Drew Brees for example...guy is a saint (literally and metaphorically).

Yeah, unfortunately negative gets more ratings and lets mediots ride their high horses but there are plenty of good guys out there in the league.

Same here. Way to go Vince. Good stuff. These are the kind of things that really matter in life.

Great move. Even coming up with the idea for the boys shows a lot about his character.

Glad to see he's growing up, it seems.

I had read this earlier, pretty classy move by V. Young. Sounds like S. McNair really meant alot more to him than most people thought. Glad to hear those two young men will have a "big brother" looking out for them.

Unfortunately, a lot of players explicitly state that they do not want any media coverage of their good deeds. Why? I don't really know. But there were multiple times when I had wanted to tell a good story and was told by the player, the player's agent, the player's publicist, etc. that was going to fly. I mean I think I understand why, in many cases. It's because they don't want the beneficiary of the good deed to think they were all just part of some public relations stunt.

Very very nice gesture on Young's part. It won't make Sports Center but I bet if Young got a DUI it would.

True, but the media doesn't have to get a quote from the Player or Publicist to let folks know what these guys are doing. Self-promotion isn't required, just a journalist (and media outlet) wanting to show the brighter side of life. Unfortunately there aren't too many of those around these days.

Has nothing to do with getting a quote from them. They just don't want it covered at all, and so often times no one knows about it until after the fact.
