SI

Heard on the radio tonight that in the newest SI, there is a blurb in there that says that Patrick Ramsey said that last year when he was getting pounded, he would frequently lose his color vision. ie, he would go color blind after the harder hits. Does anybody have this issue so we can see the exact quote?

no

What Patrick Said

This is from an article in SI on the high rate of injuries in the NFL this year:

"Some of the textbook big hits look worse than they are. If you see it coming, you adjust your body to make it less violent. What really hurts is somebody who's 300 pounds lying on you. Sometimes after a big hit you'll see everything in black and white. Once against New Orleans, I got hit so hard by one of their big guys that I came up screaming-not at anyone, but just trying to shake it off. Sometime you don't know what's going on. You check if everything is still functioning and try to regain your composure to run the next play. If you can't continue, you don't want to get up because you want to give the guy on the sideline the chance to warm up"-Patrick Ramsey

Colorblind isn't good for a position that revolves around seeing the field. Though I had a classmate at art school who was color blind. Not sure what his grades were like.

Patrick is a tank

skinsfanthru&thru 10-07-2004 11:10 PM

that would explain his habit of throwing to the other team ;)

I've never been jumped on by a 300 lb. guy (300 lb. girl-well look it was college, I'd been drinking) but my guess is that it's just for a few seconds that he sees in black and white. And he would be able to just figure out that the black jerseys are the colored jerseys right?

SkinsNative 10-07-2004 11:48 PM

yeah he can still differentiate light and dark, but could have problems against certain teams depending on the jersey being worn.

Wow, he got hit so hard he'd lose his ability to see in color - that's a bit frightening if you ask me. I think it's more frightening that after getting hit at one point, he just got up and started yelling at no one in particular but then would rather stay in the game and deal with it than go to the sideline.

Going color blind from a hit! That sounds pretty scary to me.
I hope Ramsey gets another shot this year. We need his arm to stretch the feild! :httr:

I remember the hit Ramsey is talking abut, may have been Grady Jackson, just plowed right into him and pancaked him into the ground.

I'll take 300 lb girl before I let a 300lb guy jump on me.

Smoot, did she literally jump on you or was she on top of you jumping up and down?

Hows that visual?

I think I'll refrain from answering that ;)
