I will be away for this weekend catching the Breeders' Cup races and may not be back until late on Monday so I want to get this message posted before I disappear...


If you are eligible to vote and registered to vote, please be sure to go and vote next Tuesday.


I don't care if you vote for the candidate that I will vote for. I'm not going to tell you who I am voting for or bore you to death with the reasons why I made that choice. To be blunt, I really don't care whom you might vote for or why just so long as you vote. Voting is a responsibility of citizenship in a democracy. So please take the time and make the effort to go and vote.


To the Moderators: I have no intention that this thread will turn into a political harrangue but if it does, I apologize in advance and I'd ask that you take it down. I happen to be one of those people who believes that things will be better if more of the citizenry is "invested" in the election processes and so I wanted to urge members here to go and vote their consciences.

I think the voting should have a list of 20 or so issues (i.e. military, abortion, welfare, education, medicare, etc...) and that you should vote for each issue. Then, based on your responses - it would tell you which candidate you should select. You could still have the option to go the other way "just because" but then at least you would know that you were being irrational.

I'm just sick of the majority of Americans voting for whoever "looks presidential" or based on the rediculous, non-pertinent storylines in our increasingly biased news networks (i.e. who gives a crap what each one did or didn't do in the military in Vietnam compared to who they are and what they stand for now).

I saw a poll they conducted on people who voted early and 63% of them couldn't name one issue that the candidate they voted for stood for. ONE FREAKIN' ISSUE. That's sad folks.

That's like my wife, who picks her fantasy football team based on the color of their uniforms and what their mascot is. (Then again, she's killing me this year - so who knows??) And now that I've tied this back into football - ADE OUT!

Voting is definitely worth the turnout, although I feel the system we're using is a bit unbalanced and we should go to a pure popular vote, since that ensures the people select the President it's worth your time.

If you're a democrat, don't kill us again by voting for Nader!

Don't you know that exit polls conducted during the 2000 election showed that most people who voted for Nader would have voted for Bush otherwise?!?!?!

If Gore could have won his own home state it wouldn't have been an issue. Blaming Nader for 2000 is a cop-out. The true crime of 2000 was the Florida debacle.

The reason we don't do a popular vote though because whole sections of the nation wouldn't be represented. We do electoral college because states like Rhode Island and Maine deserve to be counted just as much as New York, Texas and California.

some helpful hints from an email I got:

Bring a picture ID. Many states have new identification requirements this year, so play it safe by bringing your drivers license or other official ID if at all possible.

Go to the correct polling place. Many polling places have changed since the last election, and in some states, your provisional ballot will not be counted if you go to the wrong polling place. So check your polling place ahead of time by calling your local election office or reviewing your sample ballot.

Call 1-866-OUR VOTE if you experience or witness a voting emergency. Lawyers will be standing by to provide free, immediate, on-the-spot assistance.

Remember, you have the right to vote if you are in line before the polls close -- no matter how long it takes. There has never been a more important time to make sure that you vote and that your vote is counted.

I think there is some referendum in Colorado that is being voted and would take effect with this election where the electoral votes wouldn't be winner take all. So basically the the winner of that state would take 5 of the 9 electoral votes. What do you guys think of that idea? Had it been in effect last time Gore would have won.
