Study: Cutting salt intake would boost nation's health

Kind of a no-brainer

The amount of salt in processed foods is what's scary though, you really have to pay attention that.

I can give up pretty much any food but salt would be so hard. I have never done it. Even in my younger days eating really clean like just chix breast and hard boiled egg whites I still smothered them in salt.

I used to be a big salt guy but I've cut way back on adding extra salt to my food. I'll only add salt if something is really bland, I used to salt my food without even tasting it.

I never add salt, and the sodium is the first thing I look at. Those concerned with weight, should really cut down on salt and sugar.

Its surprising how much of it is loaded in our foods.

Ever eat at Chilis? holly crap you are dehydrated in the morning. I will drink like three glasses of water after going there.

I like salt foods I don't necessarily add more salt to my food but according to that article the salt shaker on the table is not the problem it is the process foods.

Ever look at the soduim on Romain Noodles or Cup of Soup? It is like 1000 mgs!

Yeah I hate it when I eat out somewhere and later on that night I find myself pounding water because I'm so dehydrated.

Its amazing how much salt is in processed foods and when you start to eat the food it needs salt. I find when cooking to cut back on the salt a salt to tast when eating you can use alot less. I wonder how much was waisted on that reserch which was something I knew 10 years ago.

Another thing for salt lovers: if you find it hard to cut back salt, cut salt content in your foods you make at home by half or 1/4 and substitute with garlic. It works pretty well, but takes a bit of time to get use to.

I almost add zero salt to food made at home (just a bit) and more garlic to compensate. Works for me.

There are some pretty good non-salt seasonings out there. I use a lot of garlic seasoning too.

Hmmm . . . I have to think about this one. You see when I was in boot camp we smothered everything we ate in salt. We also drank water like it was going out of style. The salt was to retain water in the S.C sun. I'll give this some thought. I quit smoking but my pork loin sandwiches are off limits.

Umm, huh???

Anyway, as far as the salt thing goes, I never add extra salt to anything. I do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, but I have my weaknesses too (bacon cheeseburgers with bleu cheese). It's all about moderation.

Sea salt is also said to be better for you then regular salt. If you cut back slowly at some point you will find that your not adding salt to the things you always salted. One of the only things I have to salt is steak.

I was a huge salt guy. The only thing i add it to now is unseasoned steak, and only a little bit. I had to take a diuretic for hypertension and once that didnt work as well as the doctor hoped and they tried to give me somthing else i said to myself its not worth it and quite.
