I would love to see what it's like to get sick of money. But I can see how it could distract people from the things that really matter.

I will have to say my parents have done very well for themselves and enjoy a very nice lifestyle but now that I am older I can see that material things have kind of consumed them, kind of like what the guy was saying in the article just working to get stuff you don't need.

My parents stuff own them they don't own the stuff. Always worrying about what will break next or what to buy next or working long hours to buy the next thing (more my dad). I have no desire to live their lives.

I will take my family, our health and a house with a little white picket fence, that is all I need.
Dumb a$$.
Ditto. I'm pretty sure I'd find a way to deal with it if I had a few million dropped on me.

He's my kind of guy: aware, concerned, non-materialistic. He's a terrific role model. Stories like this renew my faith in humanity.

Quote from Article:

"The tipping point came while he was on a three-week holiday with his wife to islands of Hawaii.

"It was the biggest shock in my life, when I realised how horrible, soulless and without feeling the five star lifestyle is," he said. "In those three weeks, we spent all the money you could possibly spend. But in all that time, we had the feeling we hadn't met a single real person that we were all just actors. The staff played the role of being friendly and the guests played the role of being important and nobody was real."

I'll have to say I get what he is talking about there. I hate going to a 5 star place and having people working there walking around kissing your a$$ the whole time. Just be nice, do your job, and stop acting like I'm somebody I'm not. It drives me crazy as it takes three people kissing my butt just to get my car. Just give me the Fing keys and I'll get it and park it myself. I guess some people get a high off having people pamper them but I'm not into all of that. Yes, a massage or something like that is nice from time to time but spending a week somewhere and having people kiss you ass like your a god is just annoying.

Read about this the other day. At least he gave it away to charities that he started and didn't even collect salary on it. He must be a real recluse because 3mil could get you some cool stuff, allow you to invest for you and your fam's (if you have any, which it appears not) future, etc.

I get that.. but I'd say he's anti-social. Having that money opens the doors to a lot of people. Some guy I've done web work with's little brother was a valet and he really impressed a guy he repeatedly parked for over a weekend. The guy ended up hiring him as his personal assistant and to take care of a lot of things as he expanded his business from overseas. Yeah you can hit casinos, restaurants, whatever and never meet a real person, but a lot of the people working there are real genuine people and there's never a shortage of people around unless you live in the sticks. Sounds like more of a personality issue.
