Shawn Springs = great acquisition

He's currently leading the team in sacks and int's with 3 each. I don't think it can be said enough, he's proven himself to be a great pickup for us, Champ who? Now we just need to keep Smooty around so this tandem can stick together for a few years. |
springs, pierce, washington... we've made some really good moves... but barrow and brunell have just been so awful... only hindsight can tell you for sure though... springs has definately played better than i expected. Its nice to have 2 good man coverage type corners... not many teams do.

Don't forget about Griffin. He's been solid and could be making a trip to Hawaii. I think Springs came in here with a chip on his shoulder, because many had doubts about him with his injuries. But he's been one of the biggest contributors on defense. Hopefully he can snag a couple more pickles and go to the Pro Bowl with Griffin, Washington, and Portis and maybe Gardner. |
To be fair about Barrow, the guy was an ironman his entire career so it's really hard to blame the front office for bringing him in. Injuries happen, unfortunately it happened in his first season with us. I'd give him a grade of incomplete, same for Daniels to this point.
Alot of our so called questionable pickups have really panned out. We were snickered at by alot of people in the media for dishing out big bucks for Griffin and Springs, and they've been two of our best players this year. As for Pierce he's been with us for a few years now. |
we had the option to not resign pierce though, and we did, and he's been playing well beyond his contract's value.

i always considered Springs to be the key on our defense, because with all the blitzing going on, and our ho hum dLine (glad to have been proven wrong on that one) he'd have to keep the no.1 receiver well covered.
so far, he's been awesome. i love how he has some size and physicality to him and never does the useless cornerback arm tackle or bounces off guys. but im concerned about his speed. i saw him struggle to close the gap when the ball was in the air vs the Packers receiver who isn't well known. i dont see him being effective by himself covering first class receivers like TO or Moss, so far i think our biggest air threat has been Amani Toomer who is gettin a bit long in the tooth |

Hey! Bad-come-over Pastabelly is even giving him props. |
the defense doesn't need any changes so we can focus on the offense in the off season
|
Didn't we draft pierce a couple years ago

I think Pierce was undrafted... |
Pierce was an UDFA and was originally signed by Marty.
|
Springs has always had the talent, it was just a question of whether or not he could stay healthy
|
yah springs is def one of the better FA acquis. by the 'skins. he really makes the champ-portis trade look good. half the cost of champ and just as good in my mind.
|
on D we could upgrade SS and possible a Dline position or two... both items would be nice, but a super awesome TE or Olinemen would be more useful (or a QB that can hit open receivers)
