Tough blow for England and the World Cup. He's not the player he once was, but still... |
Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
time for becks to retire, had a great career

Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
im more concerned about the la galaxy than england. he would have been a bit part player for england if he had even made the squad, he was on the outside looking in to even get into the team this year. but for the galaxy this is a huge blow. he gets injured while on loan to milan, so now he comes back to the club injured for the 2nd time. he has only played 41 games since joining the club. they cant be happy with how this has turned out for them.

Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup

Good points. I think I should have said it's a big loss for the World Cup just in terms of his "star power" and how even the most casual fan of soccer knows Beckham. Though even the most casual soccer fans tend to watch the World Cup, regardless of Beckham. dmek, what's so tricky about the title? |
Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
I follow soccer quite a bit, and as SS mentioned this has little impact on England's chances of winning. The only real impact is his star power.
England's squad has a ton of talent in the midfield, and not having Becks is probably easier for their coach, Capello, to create the optimal lineup. Think of it like having an aging Jordan on your basketball team. It may actually hurt the performance of the team and the growth of younger players but you are forced to give him playing time because he is Jordan. Same thing. |
Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
Most overrated player ever? He's more of a celebrity than athlete. He was only going to play about 15-20 minutes a match anyways, so it's not a tough loss at all.
I saw his injury...didn't look like he did anything major to really hurt himself, just a misstep...maybe he's just finished or has been slacking on conditioning to go to photoshoots. |
Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
why the capital M? made me think of something like Miss Universe

Using the rules of capitalization that book titles use, all words except for those such as "and, to, or, etc." would be capitalized. They're not counted in alphabetizing either. "Miss World Cup" is appropriate for that pretty boy though. Tom Brady can be "Miss Super Bowl". Yes, grammar can be more exciting than soccer. |
Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
I wouldnt say overrated, at one point he was one of the best midfielders in the world.
Now he is a decent player, but not much more than that. He also sells jerseys. Any soccer fan would not rate him highly. Its the causal fan that would do that, just because they dont know good soccer players the likes of Rooney, Messi, Eto'o, Drogba, etc. Like I mentioned before, he is like Jordan well past his prime. |
Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
I suppose that I see him as overrated because by the time he came to our nation, he was past his prime. I do not follow international soccer.

Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
Who? Let's clear this up. If it's Miss world cup, shouldn't Deck-hand be up for Misses World Cup? He is married right?
|
Re: David Beckham to Miss World Cup
He is over the hill for sure. The Galaxy Owner and/or their FO was probably high when they conjured up that deal. I mean sure, yeah, he did draw a lot of extra fan interest, but not nearly enough to justify paying him that out of the galaxy contract!!!!

Well they are getting burned by their total stupidity for what they are going to pay him when it is all said and done. Anyone knew his best days were behind him by the time they picked him up. Maybe the Danny and Vinny are friends with the Galaxy owner and FO?!!!!! |
