Spurrier not interested in Dolphins, NFL

Well, well, the ol ball coach seems to know that he's not cut out for the NFL.
"If I get back in [coaching], it would most likely be at the college level," Spurrier said in a telephone interview. "It just seems like I'm more suited for college ball. I think the Dolphins need to get an NFL guy who's been in the league for 10 or 20 years."
That's quite a statement for him to make

MTK 11-09-2004 11:15 PM

I wish the guy luck, I really do. I know I have a strong opinion against him, but I can't deny he's a very successful college coach. I'm sure he'll go right back to his winning ways, at least he admits the NFL isn't for him. I can respect him for that.

hell end up a offensive cordinator somewhere

redwagonskins 11-10-2004 01:07 AM

would you want to take over the dolphins now? he knows they will be rebuilding for some time and doesn't want another dc episode. you gotta give him credit for seeing a bad situation for what it is.

spurrier to penn state to revive the fading powerhouse. its all falling into place. we just have to sell him on the 36 hole campus course.

That Guy 11-10-2004 01:23 AM

maybe NO, but miami with crappy QBs and a fairly terrible offense?? not a good fit...

dragontat7169 11-10-2004 07:33 AM

I agree that Spurrier is definitely a GREAT College Coach. I do think he could be a GREAT NFL Coach..but it would take time. He would definitely need to be an Offensive Coordinator for a few years and then an Asst. Head Coach for a few more so he could truly learn the NFL. But there are 2 reasons why I don't see that happening: 1. There isn't an NFL team that will want him in his learning phase and 2. Why would he do that when he can make a hell of a lot more money in the College ranks and be a lot happier.

I hope that he does find happiness and success in whatever he does.

I think this is a smoke-screen. I'm probably wrong.

Miami had hopes of the playoffs in the off-season. Their team isn't THAT bad. They drafted Vernon Carey who can really anchor that line once he gets experience. Not to mention, when you have Ricky Williams at your disposal to trade, you have a shot. It'll take a few years for him to get it going. You think he doesn't salivate looking at those receivers? David Boston, Chris Chambers, and Marty Booker. All pro-bowl players.

Let the defense keep doing what it's doing!

I'm curious to see where he goes!

I honestly think that he's trying to comeback to College football. Maybe UNC....

MTK 11-10-2004 08:44 AM

College is where he'll be.

He realizes that's the place for him, and most wouldn't disagree.

Redskins_P 11-10-2004 09:09 AM

I also want to say that I hope he comes back to College. He's good for the game, and he's a great coach. I wish him nothing but the best.

diehardskin2982 11-10-2004 12:31 PM

his ego won't let him be anything other than head coach but i wish he would be our offensive coordinator. It would be an awesome but unrealistic blend of his passing game with gibbs running game, and blocking schemes. two of the best minds in football would be unstoppable.

I think he is on the record as saying he would not take the UNC job out of loyalty to Duke. Since he nixed the Gators also one has to wonder where else he could end up if loyalty is really a factor. He certainly couldn't step into one of the Fla programs if one came open and does this loyalty extend to all ACC schools or just schools in direct community competition with Duke. If it does then nix both the SEC and the ACC. Who knows what the hell he wants to do.

VTSkins897 11-10-2004 05:09 PM

he could coach reasonably in the NFL given all the right pieces and a little bit of patience... Washington, lousy as we've been the past 10 yrs, is the last place you'll find even an ounce of patience among its fans.
