“The success Houston had last year with (tight end) Owen Daniels before he got hurt is something that we’d like to do in this offense, as well as what Dallas does with Witten,” McNabb told reporters during the Redskins’ mini-camp.
Good things coming for Cooley and Davis. |
Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities
You betcha. Could be Cooley's best year yet. And Davis will do some serious damage.

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities
We will be very competitive this year.

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities
Sounds like we are taking the lead in the off season!

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities
I hate to revisit this subject since I know it's not happening, but it would have been nice to traded cooley. Davis is so sick! I just dont know how we would use both. Although having a backup of that caliber is silly!

Fred Cooley is set to have a big year.

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities
Ya know, last yr it was reported the Skins were going to figure out a way to utilize both TE's and everyone got excited. In my humble opinion... Zorn either did a terrible job trying to do this game plan or it was JC not trusting anyone but Moss and Cooley. Maybe it was both cause after Cooley went down ARE stepped up, Davis stepped up, Thomas saw more passes, etc.
I so want to believe both Shanahan's will figure out a way to use our Two TE sets to it's best advantage. I had wonderful pictures in my mind of Cooley being flanked wide to take advantage of the smaller DB's, or both Davis and Cooley going out for passes creating a mismatch with the opponents back field. It never happened. I'm guessing the Shanahans will figure this out and if nothing else make the other teams wonder which TE is blocking and which is running a route on any given play. |
Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities
Zorn had two TE sets?
Unless we're talking goal line/short yardage, I never saw 'em. |
Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities
Zorn hated two TE sets he rarely used them and the mentality seemed to be at least before Cooley got hurt was the use of a two TE set would come about more of necessity (JC is on his back too much we need to block for him). So they would trot Sellars or Yoder out there to lock but two TE receiving sets was something they used when they were on the goaline and it was a rare occasion, it really only happened when the Shermans took over playcalling and then Yodes caught a couple, Davis had a couple but only goaline stuff.

I certainly think Shanahan and McNabb will find a way to get his playmakers the ball. who those playmakers end up being, we'll have to see. |
Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities
IF our O-line re.....tool is at least somewhat successful, this year could be a lot of fun.
If NOT.....Katy bar the door? |

He has a total of 51 catches and 6 TDs and those are sick numbers. OK |

And Santana Moss said that the Giants DBs were calling out our WRs routes (correctly) on most plays the second time we played them. I can't find the quote but he did go on to say that it does happen a few times a game but the Giants knew every play before it was run. I would think it would be safe to say that at least the teams in our division knew what we were doing on most snaps. Even on some of our more genius trick plays. |
