does anyone know what picks we have 2005

does anyone know what picks we have. i know we traded 1 away.

We don't have our 2nd round pick (traded to the Saints for a 3rd rounder used to get Cooley, since we traded our 3rd rounder to get Brunell). I also believe we traded a 5th rounder to Philly for Thrash but I can't confirm that.

Damn... that could be a really nice pick for New Orleans to pick up. Cooley has been playing very well for a rookie, so I'm not complaining or saying its not worth it, though. However if thats still a top 40 pick... thats a pretty penny.

WE traded our 3rd rounder for Brunnel in teh last draft. We have all our picks except for our 2nd and 5th.

I am hoping we look at trying to trade Gardiner away before the draft. I have a feeling some team would be willing to give up a 4th or a 5th to get him, he doesn't have much of a future with the club, and we wouldn't take a very big cap hit.

Another possible trade - Samuels (if he is not willing to renegotiate). The cap hit would be substantial, but considering his cap number, we'd actually end up saving some room and I'm sure we could get a #1 for him.

This is Gardner's final year on the contract, I believe. There won't be a trade for him. In fact, I don't think the Skins will even bother trying to re-sign him.

We are going to need a receiver either way. Something tells me that Coles, Jacobs, McCants and Thrash just aren't going to cut it. We need an impact receiver badly.

i'm not sure samuels would gaurantee a 1st round pick... i think gardner could get a #3 though... he's had a 1,000 yard season and is a decent #2...

Gardiner is signed through 2005, when his cap number will be about 2 mill. If we trade him, the cap hit will be negligable.

Also, I'm sure there is some team that saw the highlight reel catches that would be willing to gamble a 4th on him.

Also, considering the contract they signed Coles to last year, I would say they are not in the market for another receiver. It just isn't financially feasible.

Drift Reality 11-18-2004 10:20 AM

Samuels is still owed about 5 million dollars of his bonus, over two years.

His cap number for next year is about 9.6 million - just ridiculous.

If we trade him, I have a feeling we will take take the 5 million dollar cap hit, but save 4.6 million in cap room, which makes sense to me.

Fair enough, I stand corrected on Gardner's contract. If we could get a 3rd or 4th for him, that would be wonderful. Hopefully some other team will overpay for Gardner similar to how we overpaid for Brunell and Portis.

I still say though, that regardless of who the QB is, our receiving corps won't be up to snuff with or without Rod Gardner. In this league today, unless you're the Patriots, you simply cannot get anywhere if you don't have at least one top notch wideout that is ranked somewhere in the top 5 or 7 in the NFL.

So far, nobody on the Redskins roster, including Laveranues Coles, belongs in the Top Ten of wide receivers in the NFL.

Either way both are staying in Washington. Gardner has done well this season even with Brunnel at helm, and is a Gibbs Favorite. Samuels has underachieved but he is on one of the most brilliant Tackle tandems in the league. Only I see samuels going is if we steal someone better like orlando pace. We'll get a good first round and spent the other pics between the offensive and defensive line.

I personally like our current group of WR's, especially now that Ramsey is playing I think we'll start to see what they can really do.

Coles just isn't 100%, but his real problem is he feels pain when he has to start and stop, but he's said that he's fine running straight ahead. Translation? He needs a QB that can hit him in stride for him to be effective, which Ramsey can do.

Gardner got off to a hot start but has cooled down, but how can you stay hot with someone like Brunell at QB? With Ramsey in there we should see more production out of Gardner just like Coles.

McCants seems to be the real darkhorse here, he seems to have a nice rapport and comfort level with Ramsey, and vice versa.

Thrash isn't much of a threat at WR but he's nice for depth and special teams of course. Jacobs has been praised by the coaches for his work ethic and he should continue to grow and develop under this staff.

I really don't see much room to bring in anyone next year, but we'll see.

We should've traded Cliff Russell for a 1st round pick! :Smoker:

Sheriff Gonna Getcha 11-18-2004 01:44 PM

Our recieving corps is just fine. Other than T.O., Moss, Ward and Harrison, I can't think of any recievers who are better than Coles.

Gardner is one of the best #2 WRs in the league.

Jacobs, McCants, and Thrash are top notch #3s.

WR is the absolute LEAST of our worries. I'm far more concerned about the O-line and D-line than anything else. Jansen's return will help our O-line considerably and our D-line isn't getting pressure but is doing pretty well.

We need time to gel and make sure Ramsey is our man (I'm convinced he is).
