|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
heard some rumblings earlier that he might be one of the two senior candidates
hopefully he gets in! |
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
dude should be in no questions asked. guy was a monster
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Long overdue...hope he gets in soon, while he's still here to enjoy it.
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Glad to hear this is a step closer to happening. There were several guys on the 72 team that made comments about Chris going to more pro bowls than any other Redskin, and not being in the HOF already.
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Yes! Yes! My boyhood idol and favorite Skin. The guy definitely deserves the HoF.
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
He is deserving...and an ass kickin' SOB in his day!
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Definitely deserves a spot. I remember when I use to sit in section 416 an elderly lady, must have been in her 70's, wore a Hanburger jersey. She really must have been in good shape, she'd climb up those 23 rows like it was nothing. Didn't miss a game either.
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
When I was a boy I had a pet heifer cow who I named "Christina Hanburger." That alone should get him in the HoF.
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Chris called me last night to update me on a mutual friend with some health problems. We talked about his nomination. He was happy to be recognized with the nomination. For Chris, him admitting that says something.
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Chris told me about the Post sending a photographer for this picture, so I found the article:
Chris Hanburger, a former star linebacker for the Redskins, is a low-key Hall of Fame nominee |
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
He retired before I was old enough to really get into watching football, wish I could have gotten to see him play for the Redskins.
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
When Hanburger came out of college there were far fewer teams involved in the draft, so the NFL draft went on for more than 20 rounds.
As I recall, he was an 18th or 19th round pick. I think he played in 9 Pro Bowls. Not bad for a guy who was passed over by every team more than a few times... |
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Fitting end for a man who initially didn't have an overwhelming desire to play the game of football. For an undersized LB, he was truly an exceptional player, the HOF definitely should await him. He was a thrill to watch play.

Longtimefan:
Two things: 1. It indeed was a treat to watch Hanburger play. He played with his brain in addition to his body. 2. I love your signature line. I might just use that one of these days in a context outside the Warpath. If I do, I'll send you a link... |
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Hey Longtimefan,... is that how you feel about Compton ? LOL !
I just listened to that album on the way to work today ! |
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Wow Chris is eighteen years older than I am. I too was a big fan of his while growing up.Leaderinsports it would be great if Chris could join this site so we could say hi to him and wish him luck.

I either read it or heard it. it's applicable and it stuck......i think it came from a flip wilson line.....can't remember. Pottios, Pardee & Hanburger were formidable in GA yrs |

I can guarantee you won't see Chris on here. He isn't one to follow any of his press etc. He told me about this article when we were talking about other things, and he was mentioning how far the photographer had to travel for that picture. Heck, I could have given them a picture of Chris with Sarah (who was discussed in another thread) from an appearance they both did in December. If the mods want, I could possibly get your questions to Chris for a response in another thread. |

Have you had the opportunity to speak with Hanburger to congratulate him? |
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Another great Redskin makes it, the last 4 HOF are nothing but class.
Hanburger Grimm Green Monk I wish we had 52 players with this type of class, Alexander is the current bright spot. |
Glourius!!!!!!

Not yet - I did hear him on the NFL Network and he sounded excited (which is not usually Chris). I did talk to Len Hauss and tell him. They were good friends on the team and roommates for several years. |
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
wow, congrats to mr. hanburger!!
i am too young to remember his contributions to the organization, but i will be in canton for the party! |
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Once again, Chris Carter got denied. Someone should ask him how does it feel.
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Great Career, tough as nails. Nine time elected to the probowl, back when only players voted. So he was voted by his peers. Not an out of touch fan or reporter.
Drafted 18th round! That is right...18th round of the 1965 draft. 1972 NFC defensive player of the year. Plus a true 70's bowl hair cut. |

chris hanburger was my favorite redskin when i first learned what football was and may be the reason i am a redskin fan to this day
|
re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Can't imagine two more different personalities on a Hall of Fame list than Chris Hanburger and Deion Sanders. The ultimate humble team player and the ultimate blowhard primadonna.
Makes me proud to be a Redskins fan. |

Me too. I remember standing in line w/a small football at a bank in Williamsburg, Va waiting for him to autograph it. I must've been 6 or 7, was during the mid 70s. I really didn't think he would get in, but now that he has it's much more special to me. At least these last few years the Skins' great players are getting their due, nice to have some good news! |
Re: Updated: Hanburger in Hall
Congrats to Hanburger but in all honesty he played well before my time. It's good for the organization and for him but I personally feel no connection. I blame that on age. Perhaps I could sit down and watch "70 greatest redskins" but it's still hard to associate with an era that you were not a part of.
