I would swap Shanny and Fisher.

Bill Belichick, Patriots he was stealing signals for how many years that really needs to be taken into account IMO. It's like when they say Favre is a warrior he was addicted to pain killers for how long they never take that into account.

Sean Payton at #2? Winning a SB does wonders for your career and stature but damn!

What does his addiction have to to with him being a warrior? Pain killers dont make the man. Im not that big of a Favre fan but you cant question 20 years of not missing a game due to injury he plays football not baseball. |
Re: Ranking the 32 Head Coaches in the NFL
It says something that Wade Phillips is the last of the NFCE coaches mentioned. I am not really as high on Coughlin as this article has him, but I do think he is a better coach than WP.

8. Ken Whisenhunt, Cardinals
QB Matt Leinart(notes): ” Just looking back at my rookie year, what we were as a team until now — it’s night and day. That’s due a lot to his philosophy and the attitude and discipline he’s brought to us. He’s been extremely hard on me, but I think it’s helped me to be mentally tougher and I think all that will pay off for both of us.”
LOL. good one matt |

Re: Ranking the 32 Head Coaches in the NFL
Pete Carroll is a better head coach than Gary Kubiak? I don't like that one, Kubiak took the Texans from a laughingstock as a franchise and now has them on the edge of the playoffs. Carroll bailed on USC because he knew they were gonna get heavily punished for the transgressions he knew about while he was head coach there. I honestly don't think he'll do any better in the NFL than he did in his first stint here.
I'd also say I won't be suprised if the Bills have the worst record in the league this year, I have no idea why Chan Gailey is a head coach. He led the Cowboys to 3 straight 5-11 stints as head coach, then last year got fired as OC in the preseason for the Chiefs. Apparantly that's head coach material in this league lol. |

Re: Ranking the 32 Head Coaches in the NFL
Bill Belicheat shouldn't be that high, A) he was stealing peoples signals for we don't know how many years, and B) once his core group of veteran players started leaving, he started looking like on of the 20's ranked coaches. He started getting cocky, thinking he could win without Vrabel and Seymour and Samuel...wrong and wrong and wrong. Him going for it on 4 & 2 doesn't help his case either. Five years ago, I'd agree with him being ranked number one, but today, I'd rank him in the middle. And for those who question Sean Payton at two, just look at what he did with his first year in New Orleans, taking a 3-13 team, into a 10-6 team, playoff contender, and being a win away from the super bowl that year.
Rex Ryan, Ken Whisenhunt, and John Harbaugh need to be ranked a lot higher than where they are. Andy Reids lost his touch, Coughlin is back to where he was a few years ago, with the fire Coughlin rumors floating around, and Mike Tomlin is only good because his team was already built for him by Cowher. Jeff Fisher, I never understood why people rate him that high as a coach. |

Hahaha Wade Phillips is 15. Stupid Santa Clause lookin bastard

Re: Ranking the 32 Head Coaches in the NFL
I agree with you guys on kubiak.. I think he's a good coach and this should be the year Houston goes to the playoffs. As far as Wade goes, he has done a decent job everywhere he's been but his playoff record isn't any good.

Re: Ranking the 32 Head Coaches in the NFL
I'd move Fisher ahead of Payton, based on his body of work.
I'd also rate Tomlin, Reid, and Coughlin ahead of Mike Shanahan, at least until Mike gets this season under his belt. Then we can see how he stacks up now. I have no idea how anyone could think that Rex Ryan is the 10th best HC in the NFL. New York media bias, perhaps? Pete Carroll ahead of Gary Kubiak? That's ridiculous to me. Carroll has done nothing of note in the NFL. I'm not sure that it's even fair to rank Schwartz, Morris, and Spagnuolo yet because they haven't had enough talent to compete. Chan Gailey is a poor HC, IMO. Last place, for sure. Where do you think Jim Zorn would rank on this list? |
