AOL Sports: Gibbs Should Have Stuck with NASCAR
I know we've read this sort of BS before, but I thought I'd share it with you:
http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/special1/article.adp?id=20040921122309990001 I still don't get first of all why people are so quick to bail on Gibbs, and second why they think he should quit on the team instead of trying to turn the team around. |
I find it ironic that a writer that no one has heard of (writing for that journalistic juggernaut, AOL Sports), has the stones to talk about tarnishing a legacy. This would carry some weight if the writer had a legacy himself.
|
Wait.. America Online Sports writer said that? He does know he works for America Online right? Whatever, everyone can keep pumping this out, then if he turns it around next year, they are the same exact people who will be prasing him. Thats the one thing I hate about the media, just a bunch of bandwagoners.

Yawn.

lol, AOL is the same company that believes their $23/ month dial up service can compete with $30/ month DSL.
Take it with a grain of salt. |
It's also the company that writes perhaps the countries leading magazine. Ever heard of Time?
Guys, everyone else in the world doesn't give Gibbs a free pass. Explain to me what he's done THIS YEAR to show that things are on the right track. |
Let's look at it this way Daseal. Your man Spurrier has a stellar record coaching in college. So let's say next year he gets off to a 1-7 start. Do you think it'd be right if this AOL writer, or anyone else, says "Spurrier should just quit, he's embarassing us all"?
|
I didn't know Time was world reknowned for its great insight into the world of sports.
Explain to me what he's done THIS YEAR to show that things are on the right track.
Gregg Williams, this year's draft, and the fact that we have been in every game this year. Unlike past years, we have not gotten worse as the season has progressed. |
Please explain how our offense could have gotten any worse! Also, we were in nearly every game last year too. For much different reasons.
He brought greg Williams in. That was a great move. Too bad the lone bright spot on his record thus far is Greg Williams, Bugel, and Portis. |

LOL, the ol ball coach better win right away, no excuses! |
wow, whata bobo
AOL sports, lmao, a warner writer really knows what he's talkin about |

But this guy isn't writing for Time. Or SI. Or any legitimate magazine. He's writing a puff piece for AOL. |

Number one, nobody knew Mark Brunell was going to play as badly as he had. Number two, nobody knew that the receivers would be as bad with percentage of catches as they have been. Number three, Patrick Ramsey was not ready for this system, which he showed against the Giants earlier this season and he admitted that himself! Number four, we have countless number of injuries on our offensive line....and we're playing our back-ups to our back-ups. Number five, it takes time for an offensive system to iron out all the kinks...much longer than just one season. Even the mighty Spurrier could tell ya his system wasn't flawless..of course the beatings that Ramsey took last year could be proof. Which speaking of what Gibbs has done for us: He's brought in an excellent coaching staff..namely Williams. He's restored more protection for the QB than what was obviously there last year....and it will be more relevant once the starters on the offensive line are together again. He's restored unity. Last year it was Steve Spurrier and his offense...not Spurrier and the Redskins. Gibbs' players believe in him. Yeah, we won't see the full benefit this year. He's in it for the long haul which means it isn't going to be one year and suddenly we see sunny days again. He's having to start from scratch and build a foundation that is going to keep this team strong for years to come. That doesn't happen over night.... |
Number 1: How many people would have gone and traded a 3rd round pick for a guy who just got benched for a rookie and give him an outrageous contract. It's not like we had to rush to jacksonville before people started throwing high draft picks at them.
Number 2: Remind me again, even after 7 turnovers, how close we were to winning that game because the offense MOVED THE CHAINS! Number 3: I expect mistakes in a new system from time to time. Turnovers and moving the ball is much better than 3 and outs. At least your defense has a fighting chance if they get to take their helmets off. Number 4: Countless injuries eh? Until last game the countless injuries added up to 1. Wow. Now we have 2. I can't blame the loss of one man on the offensive line as the reason to why our offense can't score a first down occassionally. Number 5: I agree completely. It takes time to iron things out. However we don't seem to be improving as the year goes on. Gibbs playcalling has been horrible. All pass or all run. I remember hearing about a billion times this offseason "FINALLY WE'LL SEE SOME BALANCE IN THIS OFFENSE" my question is where's that balance. Gibbs brought in Williams, I admitted that was an excellent move. I wanted Arizona's ex-HC for D coordinator, and Gibbs certainly made the right decesion. He restored protection for the QB partially because the QB takes 3 snaps and get's to sit down. We don't have the options to go to this year because we keep so many guys in. We need more protection, but perhaps not go max-protect. I agree having starters on the O line will help because backs and TEs wont have to help double as often. Unity? You don't think the defense hates this right now? That they are losing attention (and ranking) because our horrible offense can't do a fraction of their job. I'm guessing there are more divides than we see within the team. He has brought a sense of refreshment and optimism. But tell me, what coach comes to a new team and doesn't? Will this team be sick of him within two years? |
