Data Post #1...

There is plenty of sentiment here for Rex Grossman to be the Skins' QB come opening day of the 2011 season - - if there is a 2011 season. Many folks also seem to believe that his starting role should be accompanied by the acquisition of a young QB to be groomed for the future. So be it..

I have THREE data postings to place here on The Warpath.

There is no hidden agenda; these are data. I have no expectation that these data will makd a significant impression on the folks who live on hopes and dreams. But data are data...

The Inconsistency of Rex Grossman

When Rex was the starting QB for the 2006 Chicago Bears - - the team that went to the Super Bowl with him under center - - his performances were wildly inconsistent. The data indicate that this is what Redskins' fans may need to tolerate with Rex Grossman as the QB .

In 8 different games in 2006, Rex Grossman had a QB Rating higher than 98.6. His highest rating of the year was 148.

QB Ratings are anything but perfect; the highest possible rating is 158.3; the lowest is 0. Despite imperfections, any QB rating in the high 90s or in triple digits is very, very good. A rating of 148 should make fans euphoric.

In 6 other games that year, Rex Grossman had a QB Rating of 40 or below. Those 6 QB ratings were 40, 36.8, 23.7, 10.2, 1.3, and ZERO.

A QB Rating of 40 is what you would get from JaMarcus Russell on a below average day; a QB Rating of 10 or below is what you might get from a cadaver.

In the 2006 season - - the only season in his career where Rex Grossman started every game of the season - - he had only two games between "REALLY good" and "REALLY bad". If he is the QB next year, prepare for a roller coaster ride.

No need to wait til next year for the roller coaster ride, we saw it last weekend.

3 turnovers... down by 20... 4 TD passes... and a furious 2nd half rally.

One would assume that he has matured and will be a little less erratic. Maybe not.

I love that he is so aggressive, but he sure was all over the place last week.

LOL Sexy Rexy

Mike Wilbon says it best "Good Rex, Bad Rex"

I think Grossman shows these next 2 games that he can play at a high level in this offense.. I also think he will show his maturity as a QB, Limit the Turnovers.

I've always been a believer that QB's who throw a lot of TD's also throw INts. You have to have the guts to make that pass, guys like JC would never do that.. One thing about Rex is he takes his chances I like that about him.. Is he a "Star"? NO but he's a solid option until we can actually get a young QB that can play in DC.. We have tried Ramsey and Campbell in the first round.. People sometimes forget that a 1st RD QB isn't always the answer.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now regarding turnovers. Some rust is to be expected after not playing for so long. He sure seemed sharp in the 2nd half once they got rolling.

Honestly in that 3rd QTR, I couldn't wait to see our Offense on the field.. It's been a while since thats happened.. Rex absolutely balled on them Sunday.

You do realize that Rex himself was a 1st round pick

So was Jim Plunkett who like Grossman had a bad career in NE, until he was traded to the Raiders and won 2 SB's. Anything is possible.

Re: Data Post #1...

From my experience watching REx it seems like he's scared to run. I just looked up his career stats. In 38 games he's only rushed 59 times for 88 yards.

I think this is part of the reason he throws so many picks, he won't get out of the pocket & either look for a reciever on the run or run himself.

Yea and some folks forget that Rex was a starting QB in a Super Bowl.. He's not Tom Brady but he's not Ryan Leaf either

So would that make him Tom Leaf, or Ryan Brady?

All of our QBs have been up and down since Joe Theismann. I say if Rex gives us the best chance to win, then we'll go with him.
