F........Wedding Planning

This has to be the most annoying thing ever. If its not meeting with the wedding planner, its the caterer, or picking flowers or registering for presents and I swear if I taste one more "cake sample" heads are gonna roll.

Sorry had to get that off my chest but this sh** is infuriating as hell.

Go to Vegas. No inlaws, no cateering, no relatives straight out of rehab, no ex's showing up out of the blue. Simple.

Believe me I've thought about it but that's outta the question. BTW I hate my future mother-in-law

I hear you on this. When I was getting married, my father in law said he would give me $30k to put down on a house or he would pay for the wedding... like an idiot, I left that decision up to my wife. Just remember, it's her day, you're just there to fill the suit, dance and smile for the pictures.

Ahhh Quake! Engaged! Good for you man.

I just got married last June, so all this stuff is fresh in my mind.

I handled some specifics as far as the layout of the venue (where in the resort the rehearsal dinner/reception was held, seating charts, etc), and I also handled the food and wine selections. I of course also handled the wardrobe for me and my groomsmen. It was a beach wedding, so it was more casual than your typical black tux church weddings.

But everything else, literally everything else, was handled by my wife, my mom, my stepmom, my sister-in-law and my mother-in-law. Between those five ladies, they pulled together a kick ass wedding, complete with a website.

Brooke (my wife) ran every little thing by me (like the place settings, flowers, etc), but in the end she knew I didn't really care as long as it made her happy.

In summary, I oversaw some major details and made sure they were in line, but little details I let her micro-manage until her heart was content.

I mean, do I really give a shit if one set of flowers is pink and the other is white? The typical conversation was more like her saying, "hey babe I chose this for the centerpieces, pretty cool, huh?" And then I'd say, "yeah those look great!" End of story.

Count this as a guy that's not married, but also one that won't marry just to be such. If someone offers me 30k towards a house or a wedding and the girl doesn't take the house, I realize what she's all about. If it's "her day" then trust me it'll be her day much longer past.

The great thing about that is that neither of us want kids.

Re: F........Wedding Planning

I went to D.C. this x-mass to do just this sort of thing. Fortunately I went to one cake place and we both liked their cake (Silvas Pastry in Vienna). Unfortunately I spend two hours the next day with the mother in-law and fiance talking to the follower people we hired as they discussed flowers and drapes, table cloths and a host of other shit. It was brutal.

I rationalized this torment by telling myself it's an assessment of what I'm paying for. Plus she really did most of the work...I imagine she has spend 100+ hours on this thing already compared to my 8 hours.
