Skin's Breakdown
I have to ask this question to all who were actually at the game I Skinscanes was, are our reciever's open downfield, or is it Ramsey's inability to find them? My observation from the tv is our routes are far to simple and easy to cover but that's tough to really gauge from the tv.
My thought's on what I can see, Portis ran hard the 1st quarter then he started running soft Bett's came in and started hitting the holes with authority, in the past I cut Portis some slack because I didn't see any holes to run through but not tonight, if he hit the line like he meant it our ground game could have won this one, we should have made the switch back to Bett's especially on that 3rd and 1 which Portis just about laid down on his own, Portis is a good back and he will rack up big number's when he's provided a red carpet to run on but he's not going to get any tough yard's the verdict is out he is a SYSTEM BACK as I stated when we traded for him. Coaching I have to say Gibb's look's a little more like he catching up when you see him on the sidelines he doesn't have the deer in headlight's look anymore unfortunatly his coaching say's otherwise I am tired of seeing these 2,3, and 4 yard pass pattern's when we need 7,and 8 yards that's coaching you have to have Ramsey go downfield in those situations having a saftey valve for the sole purpose of just completing a 2 yard pass rather than take a shot downfield is ridiculous don't even leave Ramsey that option I don't see what is so difficult about putting your saftey valve past the 1st down marker the fact is Philli came into this game and was determained to take away those little hitches and ultra short passing play's which they did and we never adjusted, I need to know what on earth goes on between Gibb's and Ramsey as far as getting a play called on time, I also have a major problem throwing the ball in the 4th when we had a 3rd and 2, we were moving the ball we were pushing there line off the point of attack Bett's just ran for 8 yard's on 2 carries so we call for a pass play down field none the less, when philli is down to an entire second string D-line, I don't get it?????? we are throwing 2 yard hitches when we are 1st, and second, and long and getting nothing when we desperatly want him to go downfield, we have Gibb's babying Ramsey to no end and we are throwing the ball downfield on 3rd and 2??????? As for Ramsey tough to tell are there reciever's open or is he looking at blanket coverage downfield? Regardless that last throw into double coverage in the end zone was downright unbelievable and just about unforgivable I have no clue what he was looking at, I am at a crossroad's right now trying to figure out is it Gibb's offense, or is it Ramsey? I am thinking it may be Gibb's the reason I say that is this I am no fan of Brunell but I don't think anybody here thought he would be as bad as he was, defiently need some on field observation's. As for the controller's, I mean official's how does that ref make that call in the first quarter on Spring's against TO he is standing right there with a perfect view. HORRIBLE!!! Then they try to give the eagles a 1st down on the westbrook draw deep in their own end he pushed that ball up a yard luckily it was still a few inches short no thank's to the ref's who spotted it, then we end up burning a timeout on Cooley's play late in the game with a spot that even if Cooley did step out of bound's [which he didn't] was still clearly a 1st down, then that bring's to me to the Spring's hit correct me if I am wrong but since when is the offenseive player's allowed to drill our corner's past the line of scrimmage during a pass play? Last time I checked that was offensive pass interference they take the guy off on a stretcher and no flag, am I the only one who saw this or am I missing something, but other than costing us a TD, and a timeout late in the game I thought they did a pretty good job all thing's considered. :banghead: :joke: special's Thrash can catch a punt cleanly that's about it, 1 big run that's about it, I give them a C-. Oh yea I almost forgot I would cut Sellars immediatly! Defense what more can we say they did just about everything you can do exept score enough point's to win the get a big A+ I gave them the plus for putting up with our offense. The idiot award this week is a tie between Sellar's, and McCant's, I know McCant's only cost us 1 penalty, compared to 2 by Sellar's, but that take down 20 yard's from the ball carrier on a nice Portis run really pulled him even to Sellar's for it's shear stupidity! |
I wasent at the game, but I'll give my input form what I saw on TV. Its a combination of both. You could see one play where Coles was wide open, and not only did Ramsey not see him, he threw it away right over his head. Theres other plays where Ramsey can have all the time in the world that its impossible for him not to find a guy if they were open. I think this, as with all of the discussions, is that there is plenty of blame to go around. I am interested to, to hear what guys from the game saw.

I'm not even joking, he has not contributed enough to deserve to be here after the amount he has messed up this season. |
Gmac: It's hard to tell if they are playing zone, Coles found a soft spot, and sat there. Ramsey decided to get rid of it (which was a good decesion if he didn't see anyone) and think he saw Coles too late. We always complain about him forcing. Rather have him throw it away occassionally (not like Brunell) even with an open guy than force it once a game when he shouldn't.

#45 had 45 penalty yards... i was at the game and i came away with 5 things...
1. I hate the Eagles fans - I hope the Eagles dont win the superbowl again 2. I hate the cowboys fans (yes, they still come to our games and talk trash) 3. Gibbs tried to be aggressive at a point where being conservative may have worked for us (a portis run on that first down at the 25 with 2 timeouts and 1:45 left, who knows he could have gained some yards there). He was conservative at a point where being aggressive may have been a good idea (with 6:00 left on a 4th and 1 at the eagles 45 he punted....). 4. Chris Cooley is a prime time player and i am glad that he is wearing a redskins uniform. 5. I have personally used so many woulda, coulda, and shoulda comments this whole season that i am going to try not to use them anymore .... we lost the game to Philadelphia where we had more first downs, less turnovers, equal yardage, better third down conversions, yet way more penalties... I am not going to say that if we didnt get so many penalties, we would have won, but i am going to say something needs to be done to eliminate these penalties, the coaches are not getting through to the players...... This is a really painful way to be 4-9..... |
When Ramsey threw it right over Coles' head, that was just odd. You often see a receiver wide open on the other side of the field of where the QB was throwing. But Ramsey just looked right over Coles' head and threw in the same direction. Very odd

heybigstar, either 47 or 57 came on one bullshit penelty. That one really hurt. I agree, penelties are bad.

I believe that was the 3rd and 2 play when we should have ran the ball, Bett's just had two 4 yard gain's, I feel bigstar is on the money with the fact Gibb's doesn't know when to push or pull. |

Or dumped it off to Cooley |

Ramsey seems to lock in on players or get an idea in his head and sticks to it without looking at the field.
On the play where he tossed it way over Coles, he had decided he was going to throw the ball out of bounds and just stopped looking, despite Coles being right underneath the throw. This really shows Ramsey gets very tense out there. When you get super tense, you don't see the field. On the throw in the end zone to Cooley that Cooley couldn't quite bring in, Portis was open with no one within a mile of him. As Theismann said, Ramsey reverted to bad habits in trying to force the ball downfield there. Again, Ramsey's tension caused him to not see the obvious. We know what happened at the end, when Ramsey was supposed to check out of the play if the Eagles didn't blitz, but he tossed it up for grabs with three Eagles and one Redskin there. Before he made the great 30 + yard throw to Cooley, he took a really inexcusable sack, holding on to the ball too long once again. If you get tense enough, anyone makes stupid mistakes. There is no shame in getting tense, but it doesn't make for great quarterback play. If Ramsey could learn to relax out there, he would play to his potential much better. |
Ramsey defiently has happy feet when asked to stand in the pocket you can see he doesn't trust his protection, we need to role him out a little more if for nothing else just to give him a little comfort, and confidence, that he's not going to get pummled, his problem right now could be he doesn't give up on his primary reciever fast enough you have to be able to identify the coverage immediatly and know whether or not you have to progress to the next reciever he may not be doing that at this point, my thought is he just lock's on and hopes that the reciever can shake the defender, even on those little dump passes as a QB you can see the defender on top of the reciever you have to look downfield in those cases and maybe come back to it if nothing else is there he throw's it out there regardless as if it was his onle reciever, the problem is until I have the opportunity to sit in the stadium and watch I really can't get a gauge on what and who the problem really belong's to, but at this point I think the blame right now lies on Gibb's.
