If the season ended today...
We would own the #5 overall pick for the 2nd straight season. Even with a win next week it looks like we're a lock for a top 10 pick, with a loss and some help we could possibly climb higher than 5.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/feature/featureStory?page=nfldraft05 What area should we address with that pick, or should we trade down for more picks? |
I say trade down for more picks. We need help at WR, O-line, and D-line.
|
This is a thread that's hard to say anything about till the time gets closer. Does Coles get surgery? If so, how does it go? After the free agents are cleared up it helps a lot. Do we resign everyone? Add someone to the mix? As of now, I think Mike Williams may be the way to go. If we go DE I think we should trade down, the draft seems rather full of DEs this year.
|
Of course it all depends on who's available but if one of the big time WR's are there that's the way I would lean.
Gardner is as good as gone after next year if not sooner, and it's obvious we need playmakers on offense. Williams has shown he can plug many different guys in and out and the D still operates at a high level so I think we really need to address the offense this offseason. A top 10 pick is way too early to look at a center, but a tackle could be in the works depending on if Samuels restructures. Trading down for additional picks would also be a good idea since we're going to be short on picks again. |
I wouldn't really be against trading a lot of this draft away and saving it for the next year. Not for players, but for more picks of course!
I'm guessing if the draft order stays the same we'll have a lot of people wanting either Cadillac Williams or Cedric Benson (whoever the Dolphins don't take) with our #5 spot. I also seeing us having a chance of grabbing the WR of our choice. Depending on what San Fran goes. They have so many needs it's hard to predict! |
I also think we should really trade down and try to acquire more picks - maybe we can pick up an additional 2nd rounder.
Then, I'd like to see us pick up a pass-rushing DE in the mid-first round, a speedy receiver with the 2nd round pick, and a center with our 3rd round pick. At some point, we also need to acquire a short-yardage back, either through FA or the draft, and could also use more depth at CB and possibly another interior lineman. |
San Fran and Miami are both in perfect situations to go QB with their first rounders

Mike Williams or trade down for more picks.. I don't know that there is that dominant player that warrants a top 5 pick on defense, but then again, I don't watch much college football so I may be missing someone.
|
I don't know, I think San Fran may try to stick with Rattay.

I agree, we need a deep threat TO type WR. |

Maybe, but if they end up with the #1 pick I think it would be awfully hard for them to justify passing on Leinart. |
Wouldn't SF be better of drafting a WR? They seem content w/ Rattay and Dorsey.
|
Big play WR or a dominating offensive lineman. And if that's not there then trade down. If Gibbs gets an OL that can doninate he will be more likely to run less maxprotection pass plays.
|
If they're content with Rattay and/or Dorsey, they should just fold up that franchise and contract themselves, because those two won't win the NFL.
|
I agree jdlea, like I said before if they have Leinart sitting in their laps how can they pass over him for the likes of Rattay and Dorsey? Puh-lease
