Trade Clinton Portis

Why? He's talented, but we don't need him. Ladell Betts fits into Gibbs' system better.

We could get a lot of talent for Portis...

Think of the Herschel Walker trade.

monk81 01-02-2005 03:36 PM

Betts waits for his blockers..............I don't think I'd trade Portis though...

MTK 01-02-2005 03:53 PM

Think of the giant cap hit

Let's stop this talk right now, LOL

Bozzy 01-02-2005 04:04 PM

It wouldn't be a cap hit, because his contract wouldn't be ended. It goes to the team acquiring him.

monk81 01-02-2005 04:08 PM

How's this..............we trade Portis back to Denver for Champ Bailey, get a 2nd round draft pick, and Smoot becomes a free agent and Denver picks up Smoot.............

just kidding........because I don't think you can seriously consider this Bozzy......sorry...............

CC might have to give us the final verdict on this, Its not like it is in baseball , I'm 99.9% sure you still take a cap hit.

CrazyCanuck 01-02-2005 04:30 PM

Portis' cap hit for 2005 is $2.4M.

If we trade him we'll eat $9.6M of dead cap.

In other words, it ain't happening.

Won't his salary be sent to the team that acquires him?

Bozzy 01-02-2005 04:34 PM

Fine, then make Portis the backup to Betts.

BrudLee 01-02-2005 04:37 PM

His bonus would be accelerated to us.

Yes, but not his prorated signing bonus which would result in the dead cap.

Bozzy 01-02-2005 04:38 PM

Oh. Kinda puts a damper on the whole trade idea.

Hahaha, I love your sig, BrudLee.

Maybe the cap hit would be worth it though...we could get a lot of talented players for Portis...

Gmanc711 01-02-2005 04:39 PM

Wait a minute.

(carry the two)

Nope. We're eliminated.

LOL!!

If we didnt have the dead cap space we already have, it could be possible. However, we cant afford what would be about 15-20 in dead cap. Thats way too much.
