Offensive rookie of the year...
No surprise here, big Ben was the unanimous choice.

No surprise to me either...
HOWEVER... I know I'll catch some flak for this one, but I also feel that "Big Ben" was also one of the most overrated players in the game. It's easy to say this about anyone, but looking at his supporting cast and how many yards Bettis ran for nearly each game, it's tough to not be at least half-decent on a team like that. Don't get me wrong, he's a great quarterback, but I wouldn't necessarily think he is the second coming of Terry Bradshaw as so many Steelers fans think he is. In my opinion, the games I did watch him play in, his passes were fairly inaccurate, especially when pressure is in his face. Then again, I could be talking about the game when he played the Redskins and how easy would anyone have it with our beast defense throwing blitzes at them. Too bad someone else couldn't have bested "Big Ben" in the voting, but in the end I feel like it was out of lack of competition to give it to him, rather than him actually earning it. |
OK, Matty. Who do you think is the runner-up offensive rookie of the year since Roethlisberger was such an obvious winner?
Antonio Gates? |
What QB isnt inaccurate when the pressure is in his face? Big Ben's biggest strength is that he does not make stupid mistakes. Hopefully PR will learn how to do that.
The same steeler team went nowhere last year without BR. The Tommy Gun Maddox made a million mistakes that killed the team, BR did not make those mistakes and the steelerrs are looking at winning the bowl. |
I think PR will learn and honestly will be a much better quarterback then Ben.
Like I said, I'm not saying he's not good, I'm just saying that I just kind of wish he didn't win it. And honestly, there are lots of quarterbacks who are quite accurate with people in their face, those are the ones who pick up the blitz and hit the quick out/slant. Ramsey was doing a lot of that towards of the end of this season. Thank God he's finally learned how to side step a rush and get the ball out in a hurry. |
It took less than 15 games for BR to be a better qb than PR. PR may be better at somepoint in the future but he is already playing catch-up to a rookie.
|
Ben R(whatever) has a much better O-line, wide reciever set, and pounding backs who force the safties up. Also the tight end for San Diego, Antonio Gates, is a sophomore.

big ben is the best qb to come out in a while though.the guy is the real deal.if manning had not thrown 49 td passes this year, big ben would be close to being league mvp.
|
When you go 13-0 as a starter, it's awfully hard to ignore that. He definitely has an ideal situation there in Pitt, a great team around him and a great staff. Still, 13-0 is 13-0.
My runner-up? Chris Cooley! ;) |
other than larry brown, have the redskins ever had a rookie of the year on either side of the ball?maybe darrell green or art monk?help me out here guys.

He could not have won both.

1) Maddox last year ran a drastically different offense last year. They changed to pass first run second last year, and it worked horribly. This year they said they wanted to play "Steelers football" again. So they did.
2) Big Ben has the best WR duo in the league and the best running game in the league (in my opinion) so he has a lot of help. 3) Eli Manning will be much, much, much better than Big Ben. He's already showing signs of production. 4) Roy Williams should have gotten it in my opinion. |
Had Brunell had the strength of a three-year old girl, he might have been able to get Chris Cooley some more passes and maybe have given him a run for offensive rookie-of-the-year. Oh well, Pro Bowl next year baby.

Antonio Gates?[/QUOTE] Isn't this like Gates' 3rd season? |

I wonder if Cooley was at all part of the discussion. I'm not by any means saying he should have come close to winning, becasue Big Ben is the obvious choice, but I wonder if anyone threw his name out there. |
