Tony McGee on the Dallas Cowboys Game
This was a discussion with Tony from Saturday before the Rams game. I did not have a chance to get it up until tonight. Feel free to post the additional questions for the Rams game, I'll probably talk to Tony Wednesday or Thursday this week.
Tony, what did you think of Hall's comments leading up to the game?[/I]
I thought the comments were immature and black board stuff. I know they say it means nothing, but it means a little bit. It gives Tony Romo a chance to go out there and play well, which he typically does when his back is against the wall. I think he was just trying to fuel the fire, but it's not his fault that they lost the game, I’ll say that.
Which of the 3 games so far is most indicative of who the Redskins are?[/I]
I think the Arizona game right now, if I had to pick. They might have over-achieved and played really well against NY. Overall with the Redskins, they have a QB that will turn it over a couple times each game. That’s not a good thing to have and I think they have to rely on the defense and special teams. The offense overall is pretty good but I think that you have to address that quarterback situation with them turning the ball over so much. I really think as a whole the team is playing very well. They need to re-establish the running game, and they’re playing good defense, so if you don’t turn the ball over, you’ll have a chance to win every game.
What do you think about Grossman's performance so far?
I think it’s 50/50 he'll give you half good, half bad. If that continues you're looking at an 8-8 type of a season. He cannot turn the ball over like he has this season so far. He played exceptionally well against the Giants, but still had a fumble at the end that the defense bailed him out on. He played OK against Arizona, and not very good against Dallas. The guy has been in the league long enough that you know what you’re going to get, but some of the turnovers are really poor turnovers, and the Redskins will not be able to escape that each week, as you saw against Dallas.
What do you think about Cofield's performance so far?[/I]
I think he's a great addition. I think that whole defensive line is playing really well Carriker is playing well, they're all headed in the right direction. They’re also doing this without the guy who looked the best all summer in Jenkins, so they’re on the right track. They have to address the turnover situation and re-establish the running attack, and I think they'll get right back on track. Grossman has to be better for the Redskins to have a chance to have a winning season.
Thanks for the questions. Hope to have some more next week after the Rams game.

Tony McGee's NFL career started in 1971 where he was a starting defensive end for the Chicago Bears. In 1974, Tony began a 7 year stint with the New England Patriots and earned the nickname, "Mac the Sack." His unique ability to swarm opposing quarterbacks helped coin the phrase, "designated pass rusher." Tony's career as a Washington Redskin began in 1982, and included a Super Bowl championship. Tony ended his spectacular career in 1985 with 106 career sacks and played in over 200 games -- a feat achieved only by a select group of NFL defensive linemen.
