They need to get rid of this RFA tender bullshit.
The highest qualifying offer for Wallace is about $2.75 million, nearly matching the amount that Pittsburgh is now under the salary cap. To franchise Wallace would cost Pittsburgh $9.5 million, which it currently does not have the salary-cap space to absorb.
This is so messed up, and not even sure how or why players even allowed this into the new CBA. Basically allows a team to cheat a player out of much deserved money. Why? Because nobody is going to sign him to a big contract AND give up a first rounder for him.

The real question is whether someone will sign him if they think Pittsburgh will match the offer.

I'm really disappointed in the CBS article's FA long snapper section. Sorely lacking in that department.

From that article:

9. Albert Haynesworth

(US PRESSWIRE) Breakdown: Haynesworth makes the list on reputation alone. And we mean his pre-Redskins reputation, when Jim Washburn got the most out of the man now known as one of the biggest free-agent busts in recent years. Not even Bill Belichick could revive Haynesworth's career, cutting him midway through last season.

The Bucs signed him only to release him a few weeks ago. Maybe his career is over, but then again, coaches and GMs are seduced by potential. And Haynesworth certainly has plenty of that.

Possible landing spots: Realistically, Haynesworth's probably done. That said, we wouldn't be shocked if the Redskins signed him to another $100 million deal.

Really? Well the media ever give up on the BS, do they not see a new sheriff in town?

I wonder if teams are going to let this DJax situation play out instead of trading for him. They could just wait and see if the Eagles are truly going to pay him $9 mil for one year.

Oh and the Browns won't be tagging Hillis...

The media will stop associating us with big name free agents when Dan Snyder no longer owns the Redskins, and we have a decade of cheap frugality under a new owner. Only then will it become tired to associate us with big name free agents. But it will still be mentioned in history, as we have become the team most commonly associated with trying to build through free agency.

So Redskins on Manning, Browns on Flynn and whoever loses on that, goes for Griffin (unless they both do). But of course the Rams want to get a trade done before FA so they can get the most. Otherwise it's a losing situation for them. Obviously.
Tripp have you rated the WR draft crop yet and/or FAs at that spot? Like to take a look if ya have.
Have but they would be ranked by different measures.

It would be cool if I had one measure that could rank college entrants against NFL free agents. You'd think I'd have already have developed that by now. Oh well.

Michael Bush RB (Raiders) is now officially a FA that can sign with any team, I would love to have the Skins sign him instead of Hightower. He's 27 and a horse (245LB's) who would be a nice complement to Helu and Royster.

The FA ratings are by approximate value (AV) accumulated in the last three years. The WR ratings are subjective.

good stuff. The draft is so deep with recievers, i think your pretty close on stuff. Broyles, Criner, Toon could be those mid round WR steals. I really dont know about that Randle guy, but what ive read, seems very intriguing. Id like to Adams, Hill or the Baylor kid with our second round pick.

I think in FA, I still like V-Jax, Colston, and Garcon. I wouldnt give Garcon a crazy contract but something decent. If we get Manning, I probably would go with #1 WR money, if not, pay him like a solid second. I think there is gonna be alot of over paying for what results you could get.

so DJ, bowe, branch, wallace, welker, and probably finley and one of the saints (brees/nicks) will get tagged and be off the market. dqwell and brooks are already gone, garcon wants over 7mill a year apparently...

I think a flyer on moss and trying for meachem or SJ is probably the best option, though VJ wouldn't be bad either. in the draft i like black (obviously) or criner.

Saints are up against the cap(trying to work the contracts under it) with several good free agents, not to mention Brees. I think it's just negotiations.

Hey Smoot, what's the word on getting a CB through free agency? I somehow get the feeling that the team won't spend a lot of money on getting one of these top CBs, if they are going to spend money on a #1 WR.
