Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
Being born, raised and still living on Long Island NY and being a Redskins fan since I was eight I’ve taken my fare share of ball busting over the years. Warranted or not it comes with the territory of being a Redskins fan in Giant and Jet country and I’m cool with that. But over the last week since “The Injury” it has become insufferable. The ball busting hasn’t been this bad since ’86 when we lost to the Giants three times.
Where I work I am the manager of the shipping/receiving department and my cubicle is in close proximity to the receiving area. My boss was cool enough to give me free rein over the choice of colors that I painted my area, so needless to say I chose to have my area painted Maroon. I have multiple pieces of Redskins art, an RG3 poster and a six foot ****ing Redskin Helmet above my desk that is visible to anyone who enters the door. Every day during the season I wear some article of Redskins clothing, whether it’s a jacket, a hat, a polo on causal Friday, hell half my right arm is covered in Redskins tattoos, so I am always representing. Bottom line, everyone who knows me or meets me for the first time doesn’t have to be Sherlock ****ing Holmes to deduce that I am a Redskins fan. Since Sunday every ****ing Giant fan Mailman, UPS driver, Fed Ex, Sir Speedy, DHL, Water Cooler delivery guy, maintenance worker etc... Has repeated the same thing “I told you he was going to get hurt”, “He can’t be running around like that and not get hurt” “didn’t you know that was going to happen?” It’s like they think I’m the head of the NY Chapter of the Redskins and I should have passed along their fair warnings onto the organization for RG3 to protect himself from injury. If that is the case then I sincerely apologize to the team and the fans for not passing along their suggestions and heed their clairvoyant warnings of certain doom. Some of these assholes are actually glad to see him get hurt, I have one Facebook Giant fan asshole friend (or should I say a “Giant”asshole Facebook friend) actually pause his DVR when his knee was twisting, take a cell phone pic and post it with the caption, “Running Quarterbacks don’t last or win in the NFL”. What kind of fan revels in another team’s star player getting hurt? I wouldn’t care if RG3 played for Dallas or Philly and got hurt, I wouldn’t celebrate it, athletes like him are good for the sport. For the most part I have always had a respect for the Giants and their fans, not like the Cowboys (they could go 0 and 16 and lose every game by 40 points and they couldn’t suck enough as far as I’m concerned) and in return I have found them to be the same until this. At first when they all started to bestow there infinite wisdom after the fact, I humored them by apologizing for not taking their advice to the team, now I just instruct them to blow me. Another thing that is getting really old is this crap about second guessing or firing Shanahan over how he handled this situation. I have been a head coach on a much more minuscule level as I coached Pop Warner for seven years and an adult Flag team that featured three guys who were on NFL pre season squads and I know from that low level experience that the head coach has a lot on his plate and if he trusts the player at their word that they are alright and can go on then that is all there is to it. The bigger question that I haven’t heard much talk about is the play calling in the game. Why did no one ask Shanahan at his press conference why Morris had only 16 carries in the game after he has ridden that Hoss all season? If I was Shanny and noticed RG3 limping badly during that second drive I would have thrown out the read option, gone I formation and asked Morris to shove the ball up his ass and sit on it for the rest of the game. Whether they got first downs or not, they could have taken valuable minutes off the clock each possession and played a field possession game and nursed that ****ing two touchdown lead to Atlanta. And enough shit about the field and **** Pete Caroll and his whining about how shitty it was, does anyone complain about the 12th man being too loud that the visiting teams can’t hear the signals in Seattle? If they do then **** them too, that’s what home field advantage is about. How many of us played on mud fields when we were kid emulating Riggo busting through the line of scrimmage with mud and dirt on our jerseys, that’s ****ing football, period. I closing I must admit that I feel a little better and encourage any other out of state fans to think of this thread as a therapy session to air you frustrations and feel free to use bad language as it is therapeutic. Till next time stay classy Warpathers! |

Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
yeah, all game i was wondering why RGIII wasn't benched after all the dirt balls and misses, and why morris wasn't running when he averaged like 8ypc in the 1st quarter.
it was a game full of poor decisions, but it was still a good season, and with cousins around i'm really not that worried about the RGIII injury, even though i do think it could have been avoided (and no, it's not cause he's a running quarterback, it's because he insisted on playing with an injury that should have kept him on the bench). |

Hey, if you haven't had your cawfee yet, I can forgive you.
I tried reading the wall of text and I think I agree...sick of the people's drama saying to fire Shanahan, or even looking for someone to blame. Griffin is a leader and competitor and wanted to win the game for us after LEADING US TO THE PLAYOFFS. It's football. Men get hurt. I do not regret anything about the game. Sure, Cousins should have probably come in, but RGIII took us to the playoffs and he needed to be the one to win it for us. Do you want a QB who cares and wants to lead the team or do you want Jay Cutler? The storm would be happening if Shanny benched him and we still lost. Too many of our fans AND especially the media act like women on their periods, but of course, only after the fact. They over-react to everything. Remember the idiot who wanted to paint buses with messages for Snyder to sell the team a couple of years ago, when he was finally starting to make solid decisions (like Shanahan and Allen)? Then there's this crap: Fire The Shanahans Cheer the hell up, Skins fans...we just had an amazing season, won the division title with a 7-game streak, went 5-1 in the division, swept Dallas and Philly and was one single play away from sweeping the Vagiants too. We knocked NJ and Dallas out of the playoffs and probably got Rob Ryan fired. We have two ROY candidates and the brightest future in the NFL...only to get better next season. It's a great time to be a Redskins fan. Stop crying. RGIII will be back and will dominate the league for years. |

You ask why we didn't keep running the ball with Morris. My answer, although you probably don't want to hear this (just like you don't want the I told you so other teams fans telling you that RG3 was going to get hurt) but Alfred is only effective if Roberts running. Its simple; RG3 runs outside, Alfred runs inside. Once Robert was hurt, what did seattle start doing? filling in the middle with pressure making us run it outside where neither of them were effective at that point.

Summo, I'd like to read your post, but the long continuous "wall of text" is a bit difficult. Can you break up your post into atleast 5 or 6 paragraphs? :)

This is how I felt when I married into a NY family. They speak with walls of text...all at the same time....loudly....with an accent. You'll get used to it. Summo should post more. SUMMO - Happy 500th post! Couldn't have been a better #500! |

Regardless if he was effective or not the attempt should have been made and the read option is ony run a few times, most others are pitches and zone runs anyway. |

Hows that? |
Re: Out of state Redskins fan rant….Parental Guidance Suggested
Great post Summo and I agree 100% about Morris. He had like 60 some yards on 11 or so carries in the first qt/half? Then got about 5 carries the rest of the game. I disagree with those who say that Shanny would have still caught a bunch of shit if he pulled Griffin and we lost the game. Everyone could see he was hurt and it affected his play. I wouldnt assume we'd have lost either. You have my respect for showing your colors so boldly in the heart of Giants territory. HTTR!!!

Brilliant post Summo, i was chuckling at desk the entire time! You should rant more often! Have to say i agree with you on pretty much everything you said. I have to say, my friends who are fans of other NFC-East teams have been much more gracious. One of my Eagles friends told me he was rooting for us during the playoffs because he likes RGIII (the mere fact that he's doing this means he's not really an Eagles fan, and i'm working on converting him. His wife is 4 months pregnant with their first child, and i've already sent him a picture of his baby shower gift - a redskins "onesie." for his son/daughter.) Anyway, we were texting the entire game and he was very consilatory when RGIII left the game. I have another friend from Long Island who is a Giants fan, and he was also sympathetic. On principle alone, i'm not friends with people who are Cowboys fans. Anyway, i have to say I am actually pleasantly surprised with how little flakk Shanahn is taking in the media. Aside from the usual local media suspects who like to stir up controversy, most pundits agree with Shanahan's decision to do what he did and/or simply say they understand the decision and its not their place to question it. The playcalling was a major question for me, but that was Kyle's doing. By far, i think this was the most questionable game he's called this year. Still, when you re-watch the game, the playcalls seemed to be good ones - players just werent executing. Robert was not accurate throwing, and when he did throw a catchable ball, his receivers dropped passes. That said, when it was obvious robert couldnt throw as accurately as normal, Kyle should have adjusted to call more running plays. You simply cannot stop Alfred Morris, no matter how good your run defense is. |

yeah, like during the browns game. or the dallas game. morris can run regardless, we just stopped calling running plays. |

Summo should post more. SUMMO - Happy 500th post! Couldn't have been a better #500!
Yep! I know that all too well too! Married into a LONG ISLAND, ITALIAN family at that! =) Summo, I have heard the same crap from others as well. And it wastes time explaining to them how wrong they are, but know this. Once Griffin has been in the league for awhile, and once he wins a Super Bowl - and he WILL win a Super Bowl, all that talk will stop. One thing you can remind them about is the field day that the media used to have with Eli Manning before he won his first Super Bowl. The media rode him hard, calling him a bust and what not. Two Super Bowls later, what has the media really said about Eli? Nothing but good things. |
