Re: ESPN cuts
I don't get it. Layoffs happen all over the country all the time. What's different about this?

even disney knows how to screw the gov't[/quote] You really don't get how this works. Connecticut gives ESPN a tax break or a laon if I read it correctly and in the long term get 200 jobs (they have to pay state taxes and other taxes from them doing business). Its smart planning and is done very well in our area in Va. Its like me giving a tenant two months rent free if they sign a 3 or 5 year lease. |
Re: ESPN cuts
but i do get how it works. they get their tax break, meanwhile laying off how many?

The layoffs are in other areas and not the in the state giving them the tax breaks. That state is gaining their business and adding jobs. I'm sure if the employees getting laid off are good they are getting offered a chance to move. Most of the time in these deals the employer has to hire a certain number of residents in that state or city. |

Dmek, you're an economic vagina.

Re: ESPN cuts
Several of my friends lost their jobs today. Tough to see
|
Re: ESPN cuts
this was announced right before disneys CEO Iger had an 19% increase in his pay from 31 million in 2011 to 37 million in 2012. that seems pretty fair to me. and people wonder where the jobs go?
|
Re: ESPN cuts
Eyeroll.
Iger gets a big increase because he's extraordinarily talented and can drive much more revenue than he is paid. Layoffs happen when people are replaceable. Sack up and acknowledge that some people are just worth more than others. And some, way WAY more. |
