Speed!

It was interesting to find out that the only person to ever outrun Moss was Antonio Brown, and the only person to beat Antonio Brown was Moss, say what you want about our WR's at this point but we have significantly upgraded our team speed, when Portis say's Antonio ran the fastest 40 he's ever seen you know the kid can pick them up and lay them down. I think our return game this season will be as exiting to watch as any we ever had, and we may be the greatest team of all time in that department to date. In the brief time we had to watch Brown perform I have to say he was running as fast as anyone I have ever seen, I am Talking D.Green fast, at least.

Re: Speed!

It's not how fast you can run. It's how good you can catch the ball and how you run routes. Speed kills, but good hands are devastating. I mean, no one has ever committed murder with speed have they now? Think about it!

You're right they do have to have good hands, but to stop the complaining about a deep threat, you have to have someone that can get open deep.....our receivers this year were no deep threats.

Re: Speed!

Well - speed kills in the return game. A couple good blocks and these guys are HISTORY! May be the only way we can score!

Anyhow, Brown may be intersting to at least give a small role to at WR spot. Just to see what he can do in a game with adrenaline flowing. Dick Vermeil once said: "You can teach someone to catch a ball, you can teach someone to run routes, but you sure as hell can't teach speed!" That's a paraphrase. I agree with it

Re: Speed!

That's definitely a good quote coming from Dick Vermiel. All of you know he coaches em up and makes em playmakers. Look at Dante Hall. Fell off last year, but year before that man was getting it done outside of the return game as much as he was in it.

Re: Speed!

Even if a player is not a quintessential WR doesn't mean he's useless [brown]there are plenty of way's to get a player the ball on offense to utilize his speed on occasion, and as far as the return game goes he look's phenomenal, add Moss into that picture and look out. It's up to Gibb's to utilize their talent's to maximize their production.

Dante Hall does a pretty good job of impacting games in KC and he's no prototypical WR.

What about vehicular homicide? ;)

The road to greatness is littered with incomplete players. Guys who can catch, but are too slow. Guys who are burners with bad hands. With Moss, we have a player who has had a 70+ catch season, so hopefully he's not on that list.

I had exactly that in mind when i wrote "think about it!" Think about that!

Didn't we also think Chad Morton was going to fis the return game? Special teams are all about blocking and execution and the Redskins have not done enough of that in recent years.

Chad Morton is an excellent return man who is likely overpaid. He was also on IR last year, so it becomes harder to blame him. The problem with Morton right now is that we have three other return men (Thrash, Brown, and Moss) who, if not as good as him, are certainly serviceable.

We also (surprise!) had a new coordinator last year who emphasized different things in the game. We blocked kicks (yay!) and gave up returns (boo!). We also had a lot of our special teams players playing defense and offense due to injuries (which left them not-as-fresh as one would hope). We also had Ola Kimrin on our roster for the bulk of the season, and experience tells us that isn't a good thing, as he's rotten at kickoffs.

Special teams should improve next year, if only because all of the aboce won't be true next year.

you can attribute Dante Hall's decrease last year to everyone in the league gunning for him. his breakout year, no one knew who he was...but he made sure they did by season's end. ought four, everyone knew Hall's name, and made sure he was securely covered...

I think it'll be exciting to see how Morton fits into the scheme. If you are going to pit Moss as receiver 1 or 2, you are not going to want him returning kicks all the time...i think Morton will return kickoffs with Brown/Thrash, while Brown will return punts, with Moss being the gamebreaking returner if needed.

My point was that Morton was a great returner on the Jets and never did crap for the Skins. You can't just bring a great returner in here and think it makes you instantly have a great return game. it doesn't work that way. Moss will do a good job returning the kicks if the Redskins do as good a job of blocking for him as the Jets have done. That's my only point.
