Per Schefter's Tweet:
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 3m NFL announced Roy Ellison has been suspended one game, minus pay, for profane and derogatory statement to Trent Williams. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/403996852091383808 I thought this was thread worthy. |

Here's an article from NFL.com...

Re: NFL Suspends Umpire Roy Ellison for Profane/Derogatory Comments to Trent Williams
Ellison had been accused of cursing out a player once before. He denied it and there was no proof that time. Even so, he was reminded that such behavior is unacceptable and warned that there would be consequences if he were to do such a thing in the future.
He did and he was suspended. Simple concept: Misbehave and you'll be punished. I have no problem whatsoever with the League's action. That said, I hope he'll learn his lesson and go on to have a successful career as an NFL official. |

There are reports that Williams provoked Ellison by using the n-word, although this would not excuse Ellison's actions.

Yeah only reason I could think was that they had no evidence of what Trent said. Also I think if Trent really had said that, he probably would've been ejected on the spot. Everybody knows you can't use that kind of language towards the officials, they are already flag happy as is, no need to provoke them further. |
Re: NFL Suspends Umpire Roy Ellison for Profane/Derogatory Comments to Trent Williams
I would have considered not paying him for the eagles game, suspending him this week no pay, putting him on secret/public probation, and banning him from Skins game for the remainder of the year.
Shouldn't refs have to wear microphones? |
Re: NFL Suspends Umpire Roy Ellison for Profane/Derogatory Comments to Trent Williams
Is something like this really not so serious that all he would get is a suspension? I might be looking at it totally wrong, but when looking at gross misconduct by an official, i would figure at the very least he would be fired....

He should be suspended... The last thing the NFL can tolerate is a perceived bias of officiating... As an official, you simply cannot do what he did...

Because a ref uses bad language how is that bias to a team or player one way or the other ?Former players say it has been going on for years ,I don't understand the big deal now ? Some more info .... Some more info .... Umpire suspended for profanity at Redskins player | Comcast
It becomes a bias when its directed at one player. No one cares that he used bad language. There was also one player that was mic'd up. Would be interesting to hear what, if anything, that Williams said. Either way, refs have these yellow things in their possession called flags. I very seriously doubt that he doesnt call a penalty if Williams said what Ellison claims he did. They have some control over what is said to them by a player. Its not like players have immunity to calling a ref names, otherwise it will cost his team 15 yards. |

.
Actually there were a couple but nothing was heard or at least understandable to use .I just find it funny after all the years where players were questioning other players manhood , family members and family heritage ,....now we get upset because a ref told a player something with a curse word in it . |
Re: NFL Suspends Umpire Roy Ellison for Profane/Derogatory Comments to Trent Williams
really wish trent listened to his teammates in the locker room and kept his mouth shut.
Wasnt it fletcher that was adamantly telling him to shut up? if fletch is telling you something, listen. |
