Brown opts to go to Denver
Hopefully this is a blessing in disguise for us....

Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
Good he will be looking to sign with us next year after he's cut because he injured all year, no big lose here. So much for Lavar's recruiting talent's, now we can cut Pierson. :laughing2

Who cares about this bitch?
What the hell has he done in five years besides roll around and whine, in the trainer's room? |
Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
Redskins Note: The Redskins announced today the re-signing of kicker Jeff Chandler.
thats good news at least ;) |
Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
COuld have been cheap help on the D line. Oh, well. Man, we really aren't the kings of the offseason anymore! Let's hope our "patriot" approach pays off.
Will we draft a DE with our second pick now? |
Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
I realize that I'm in the minority here, but I think (as I've said all week) that signing Brown to an incentive-based contract could've been a coup and perhaps our biggest offseason addition. Let's not forget that prior to the news of Brown going to Denver, most Warpathers wanted Brown. Simply because Brown decided to go with Denver doesn't mean we should change our opinion of the guy and what he brings to the table.
Brown has missed 33 games in his brief career, but he still has all the tools to become the star pass-rushing defensive end he was projected to be prior to the 2000 draft. Defensive ends, especially pass-rush specialists, are among the highest paid players in the league and for good reason. Applying pressure with just the front four makes any defense formidable. If a team has a pass-rushing threat from the front four, good and fast linebackers and an average secondary, it can pose a threat to ANY offense. We have a top-flight linebacking corps that is fast and good in run-support, coverage and blitz packages. We have a good secondary. But we lack a pass-rushing threat from the front four (Ron Warner led the 'Skins' defensive ends with 3.5 sacks). The departures of Pierce and Smoot (a very good cover linebacker and a borderline-elite cover corner) make it even more imperative that we develop a pass-rushing threat from our front four. We need an impact player on defense and hopefully the draft will produce one for us. And, as noted by others, we can just hope that Brown turns out to be a bust in Denver. |

Will we draft a DE with our second pick now?[/QUOTE] Nope, we'll pick a corner. Depth at DB is very important to Williams' system. We lack depth and youth at CB. Springs and Harris are going to be 30 or 31 next season. Rufus Brown and Garnell Wilds are still developmental players. And beyond them, we have ADE JIMOH! |
Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
I agree with Drift Reality. I'd rather not have Brown. He would our next "Bid Dqaddy" or Dana Stubblefield. He would come in with a lot of hype and then do nothing.

Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
Of course you guys don;t want him because he didn't sign with us. If he would have everyone would be on his dick. I am pissed he didn't sign with us he is nowhere near finished. I hope we take Jovan Haye from Vandy with our 3rd rounder if he lasts that long.

The big difference is he wasn't going to get paid like Big Daddy and his salary was going to be contingent on his performance. So, if he'd turned out to be a bust we'd have lost little more than a roster spot. If he turned out to be a Pro-Bowler, presumably he'd get paid like it. |
Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
Damn, no need to get hostile people. Personally I am glad that we are having a crappy offseason. Maybe we will actually start adding some youth to our squad with Joe Gibbs and cast influence right out of the gate. To be honest, I hope that we have a crappy preseason too. The majority of our good seasons started with a crappy preseason. We may not have a second round pick, but look at what we drafted last year and when we drafted them. Not too shabby. Chris Cooley is gonna be a beast!

Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
This offseason has been one big kick in the nutz. Not that Brown is going to turn into a hall of famer, but he would have helped us at a weak position. The skins have come up empty at every turn so far this offseason...

Stop being so damn pesimistic! I will take afraid of change for 200 Alex! |
Re: Brown opts to go to Denver
there still hasn't been an official announcement, this is another way teams use puffery to get what they want until it becomes official, I will not say anything.
