It's very very rare because the price is so high. Who wants to trade multiple high picks AND fork over a huge contract. |
If we're resigning Riley, it better be on the cheap. That same article discussing how others view Orakpo shows how Riley is practically viewed as a nobody. He's not bad but I don't think anybody will pay him more than D Hall or Chris Baker money.
I'm fine with Riley testing the market, in the end I think both sides know this is the best situation for him. |
The Skins. Sean Gilbert.
I thought that was just an offer sheet that brought in 2 first round picks. Carolina had already negotiated a contract with him and tried to work a trade out but it didnt happen by the day of the draft. So Carolina just signed the offer sheet with Gilbert after the draft, pushing the two firsts back a year, which the Redskins didnt match. |
Re: Redskins place franchise tag on Orakpo
So what implications does this have on the cap? His cap number is 11.5, so does that mean that will take our available cap down to below 20 mil? Sorry for the ignorance on this cap stuff.
Assuming that our cap is now slightly below 20 mil, what possible scenario do we have in signing free agents? |
I would have rather made him test the market. We have too many holes to fill.
Letting him walk just creates another hole. |

Didnt we do that with Champion Bailey? |

anyone know how negotiations are going?

Not at the type of salary he's wanting. He's not going to get that 11-14mil/yr contract from us. |

Well, for now at least he's getting $11.5. Do you really think his long term deal is going to be for significantly less?? |
Re: Redskins place franchise tag on Orakpo
I hope they did this in order to iron out a long-term deal with him... We have so many holes to fill, it really hurts that over 30% of our FA Cap is going to one player...

Many folks in Rak's situation take a little less per year but on a multi-year deal. They rightly value long-term security over short-term gain. |
Re: Redskins place franchise tag on Orakpo
All that's going to matter is what the guaranteed money is. They can make the deal look pretty on paper, but again the guaranteed money is all that really matters. And there could be some sort of team void option built in after year 3, once the money really gets crazy per year.

Assuming that our cap is now slightly below 20 mil, what possible scenario do we have in signing free agents?
In this case, yes. He will be a $11.5M cap hit this year. We carry him at $11.5M as of today, our available cap space is now the $30M, less Orakpo at $11.5, less D Hall's hit of $2.0, less the Chris Baker hit of $2.5 or whatever, plus the 3 guys getting bumped out of the top 51 at 1.5. So current cap space should be in the neighborhood of $15.5M. |
