For Washington, where FedEx Field opened in 1997, the time is approaching for a new venue. Owner Daniel Snyder tells CSN Washington that the team has “started the process” of planning for a new home. “Whether it’s Washington, D.C., whether it’s another stadium in Maryland, whether it’s a stadium in Virginia, we’ve started the process,” Snyder said. “We are going to push forward. We’ve started meeting with architectural firms. We are in the process of developing because it is a long term that you do it.” Snyder says the new stadium would have a throwback look and feel. “We’ve already seen some preliminary drawings and I’m going to be very retro with it,” Snyder said. “It’s gonna feel like RFK. It’s gonna move like RFK. I love that, I actually asked architectural firms to do it and they said that they can do it. I said that I think the lower bowl sections are going to want to rock the stadium like the old days.”
would love a stadium that rocked like RFK!! . . . thoughts?? |
Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .
No matter how constructed, a stadium won't rock like the winning old days until we...win.

Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .
What capacity would people want? Personally I would say 70000 in hopes of fewer opposing fans. And I would like the name sponsor to be Red. Man Chew. And the field to be named Little Bighorn stadium.

Anything is better than Fedex...

Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .
Okay when did stadiums become so disposable? San Diego, Buffalo, and St. Louis need new stadiums. There was a point early last decade where every NFL team in Pennsylvania needed a new stadium. Dallas desperately needed a new stadium before moving into AT&T Stadium.
I swear Hollywood marriages are starting to look like the pinnacle of stability when compared to NFL stadiums these days. |
Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .
I can't wait, but I'm not holding my breath. With the lease on Fedex that they will have to fight to get out of, combined with the sad state of financial affairs everywhere (read: Dan Snyder gonna have to put hella funds down to finance this) and the lack of good locations (other than RFK) means it'll definitely be a few years before we see anything happen. And I'll put good odds on one of these asshats in politics trying to convince Dan Snyder that they'll put a nice chunk of change down for the stadium if he agrees to change the name.

I'm more interested in finding out who is paying for it.
Also sounds like Snyder is trying to bring a Super Bowl to DC. |
Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .
DC isn't having it. It'll most likely be in northern VA. I hope for your all sakes that the taxpayers don't foot the bill. Knowing Danny, he's going to sucker you all into buying his new house of cash.

I think every NFL owner does this, so it's not just a Snyder thing. |

JKC didn't. Also, I say the same things when those stadiums are built too. |

I wouldn't expect a NFL team to update the roads around the stadium. I'm talking about the stadium itself. |

Bingo and there lies at least one big problem , if the lease is broken at Fed EX the Skins are responsable for the cost of all the updated "infrastucture" not to mention it is like owning a home ,what do you do with Fed Ex ,sell it ,to whom ? |

When the NFL learned they could force localities to pay to build them. I have a couple of thoughts on a new stadium: I always find it interesting who does and doesn't want a new stadium. In my experience, which is just mine I get that, the season ticket holders don't want a new stadium because they realize they're probably going to be priced out finally. It always seems to be the people that don't actually go to the games that want a new stadium. I'm assuming they will have a PSL program. It's hard to say what it'll look like now, the stadium probably wont open for at least 10 years, maybe more like 15-17. But this is concerning. There are few things that would make me close my account that's been in the family since 1963. PSL's is likely one of them. Snyder can go on camera and say he's going to build the stadium to rock like RFK all he wants. If he makes it another wine and cheese environment that caters to the extremes of the young drunk and the people who are more interested with telling their friends they were there than actually paying attention to the game then the new stadium will receive just as much criticism as the current one. And part of that is also driven by actually winning. RFK was a dump at the end. What made it awesome was how good the team was and how hard it was to get tickets (which made you appreciate when you got to go more.) The sections we were in everyone knew everyone because they'd all been sitting next to each other on Sunday for the better part of a decade. Anyways, I hope it's something like 65k. If Snyder's going to make it meet whatever arbitrary mark to host a super bowl then I hope those are expansion seats. I don't want another 80k+ stadium. We don't have the fanbase to fill it up. |
Re: New Stadium for the Redskins being planned . . .
My gut feeling, 90% chance the new stadium goes into northern Virginia
