Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
With all the pre-draft hype about the Skins trying to trade up to grab Edwards, I'm wondering what you guys would rather have now after the dust has settled on the draft.
If we could do it all over, would you rather have seen the Skins trade the 2 first rounders to grab Braylon Edwards, or would you stick with Carlos Rogers and Jason Campbell?? |
Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
First off it would have cost us much more that the 9 and 25 to trade with Cleveland for Edwards. Even if we threw in Gardner I still think they would have wanted more.
Lets also remember trading up for another Michigan WR. That being said THANK GOD WE DIDN'T GET EDWARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think that Rogers will be great and probably start the year as the nickel and take over as a starter within a few weeks. And Campbell. I think Matty you and I are really the only ones that are not in complete cardiac arrest over this pick. I think that he will a fine option if Ramsey doesn't want to resign or has troubles along the way. |
Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
The Campbell pick isn't killing me. Basically we spent next year's pick on what might be next year's player. This is Ramsey's team this year, but a vote of confidence for 2005 doesn't mean he's "President for Life".

Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
I think this was better than that trade, but when Williams falls into your lap and you still have a 25. That's where this gets painful.

Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
Rogers filled a need, while Campbell is more of a gamble.
If Ramsey flourishes this year and the team does better, well then it was a steep price to get Campbell. They could have used their first rounder in '06 to fill another need. If Ramsey struggles / doesn't progress, then things get interesting. Would Campbell get the nod for the '06 Season? He would have had a year to learn to the system (and maybe some limited experience as well). Have to wait a year to see if it was worth it |
Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
I would rather have Edwards than Rogers and Campbell if that answers the question. I was really hoping for Mike Williams and when thy passe don him it was probably the most dissapointed I have ever been on draft day in my life. After picking Rogers I would have been somewhat happy if they followed up with Roddy White at 25, but when they picked Campbell the day was just a total loss for me. They have no #1 pick next year now, they replaced Smoot pretty good, but I just don't see how they improved the team yesterday.
They did not address the 30th ranked offense in the league yesterday other than maybe 3 years from now. |
Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
i'm glad we did not move up to get edwards and i'm also glad we did not take williams at 9. the skins made the right move .

Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
I'll admit It was tough to swallow at first knowing we passed up Williams, but being from the south, I watched Rogers and Campbell alot and we all know the SEC is THE football conference. They dominated in their respective positions. Rogers shut down some elite receivers and Campbell picked apart Nick Saban's defense, and also Tennessee which included Dallas pick Kevin Burnett. I'm a HUGE Ramsey fan....BUT.... Gibbs is known for taking "RAW" QB's..setting them aside to learn. Anyone besides me remember Rypien, Humphries, Trent Green and other Redskin quarterbacks on the sidelines with a clipboard? Rypien did for three years before he played and we have a silver trophy as a result. I also LOVE the McCune and White picks.

BIG TEN that is where football is played. Forget the SEC GO HAWKEYES, who by the way have beaten two SEC teams in their Bowl games the last two years. Thank you very much! |
Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
Not to sound like Kiper but, Rodgers has the complete package you look for in a premier cover corner. He's faster than Antrel Rolle and taller than Adam Jones. Add superior ball skills and you understand why he's the best CB in this year's draft.
Now someone sell me Jason Campbell... :oink: |
Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
I'm happy with Rogers. I think that he can make more of an impact than any receiver we could have gotten. I wish me could have traded the Campbell pick to go up and get Matt Jones. That is a guy who I think could make a difference but still not cost us to much.
I don't know much about our late round picks, but it sounds like we did well with them. Is that right? |
Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
I didn't like the pick at first, but the more I think about it...
I think that drafting Campbell says more about Gibbs's opinion of Brunell than about his opinion of Ramsey. Brunnell will never again push or overtake Ramsey as starting QB. Hasselbeck is a good emergency QB, but that's his limit... he'll be gone soon one way or another. Gibbs had to bring Campbell in to push or supplant Pat in the next year or two. The real question is... would Frye or McPherson, have been a better choice? |
Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
Yeah. Frye and McPherson (minus the character issues) were arguably better prospects. To trade down from twenty-five made sense if the team was determined to draft a QB. :oink:

Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
I was keeping my fingers crossed until Cleveland picked Edwards cuz I was worried about the FO doing something else retarded and wasting all of those picks for a very slight upgrade over Gardner. I'm not totally upset about the 2 selections in the first round but I am still dumbfounded that they passed on Williams dispite how pathetic our offense was last year and the public statements about addressing our offense in the draft. I think the only thing that I hate about the cambell selection is that it cost us next year's 1st round selection to get him.

Re: Edwards or Rogers/Campbell
Think of it this way. By the time next year's draft rolls around, Campbell will already have a year of NFL experience under his belt and will be that much further along in his development. That year of experience may be more valuable to the Redskins than the possible draft position loss. He'll be developmentally ahead of the QB we might have been forced to draft next year.
