2015 Free Agents
Free agency is crucial to rebuilding the team- granted the Redskins do not plan to spend $$$$ on new contracts. Here is a list of the top 10 free agents at each position................. who do you want ?
FYI they now have about $14 million in cap space, this amount will change after cuts, restructuring, and a higher cap amount. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/2015-nfl-free-agents-141400044--nfl.html I want the following (if the contacts are reasonable) Tackles Newton Texas Dunlop San Diego Barksdale St Louis G/C Franklin Denver Hudson KC Wisneiski Oakland S Moore Denver CB T Williams GB |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
I honestly would be fine not dipping into FA this year. I mean if an opportunity opens up to get the right guy at the right price, fine, but we can rollover cap space, and we will need it to sign the few guys we know we want, rather than chasing someone else's guys.
Of course a large part of this is that I am hoping that we will have a very strong draft class based on Scot McCloughan's hire. |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
Im hoping we wait a week or longer in FA before we do anything. Thats where the bargains can be found.
Other than that, im really hoping McC completely ignores the first statement of this thread. Winning the offseason sucks. Draft well and be patient with building the team even if it means we suffer for a couple more years. Do it right this time, no shortcuts. FA isnt crucial to a rebuild at all. FA is used by two types of organizations. Ones that draft well and are trying to get that final piece. Or organizations that have no clue but want to be able to tell the fan base that they are committed and that they are willing to spend money so buy tickets. |

I can definitely see at least one starter-caliber free agent hire for the offensive line. I'm hoping that McC has a better eye to evaluate FAs. |

Which is why I said to wait a week to do so. I didnt say to never sign a free agent. There are starting quality players in FA that we can sign that wont break the bank. We just have to wait for that first week (or longer) to go by where people are overpaying for what are considered the elite players. Let that overpayment period go by and then look at if any of them can help the team on a reasonable contract. Granted you and I seem to be one of the few on this board that think we did a terrible job of developing him and that he can still be salvaged. I got ripped on this board for complaining about the Oline saying we would never develop a QB behind it. That was until Colt got put in then it was the go to excuse for the board. |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
my wish list:
1. FS (make this the priority - someone like tj ward, even if it costs 5 mil per) 2. Guard (replace chester and is insurance if lauvau needs replacing/injured so we dont end up with 2 inexperienced guards starting at the same time) 3. no 3 corner (basically what tracy porter was supposed to be for us last year) after that, hopefully we selectively pick and choose for depth at every position. i dont think you can start and draft a FS unless he is our no 5 pick. Position is too important to not address and i dont trust a rookie at that spot. |

Re: 2015 Free Agents
Mike Iupati, Stefen Wisniewski, Ndamukong Su, Terrence Cody, Brandon Spikes.

Look at how well Wilson has developed behind an elite defense, a solid offensive line, and their elite running game. While we had a good running game, I don't think you can develop a QB in whom you solely depend to win. |

Not this year. But in a couple... it is possible. Even though I think free agency should still be used I am not a fan of building a Madden team. Copy what Seattle did. |

OLB, TE, RB how are these needs? (maybe OLB, but not likely finding a reasonably priced FA upgrade out there) DL/CB, one draft spot, maybe 2 OL and S absolutely 4 picks in this area. If we trade down in one of the first 3 rounds, we should have 4-5 top 100 draft picks. We need to hit on them, for OL, S and maybe DL help. When you list RB or TE you just sound like a pipe dream fan. We have Morris, Helu, Redd, as reasonably proven talents. Likewise Paul, Paulson and Reed are a combo that minimizes the need for using a draft pick at TE this year. Those are both spots where you get cheap FA's, let them compete, and best players stay. Sure, we could use FA's, every team can, but our emphasis should not be on any FA "saviors" at any position. |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
Absolutely not. Say no to free agents unless they happen to be a bargain. We aren't remotely close to contending and we need to get our foundation put up before we can start adding walls or a roof. (which is what FA ends up being)
