Sporting News Magazine...

I get Sporting News in the mail and they have some good takes on teams in the NFL. They also are doing a review of each position for each team. Anyhow each week I will try to post what they say for those of us that do not get Sporting News. If anything it hopfully will shed some light on some stuff and give us something to talk about...

From May 20th Issue...

"The Redskins depth at saftey will give coordinator Greg Williams plenty of options. SS Matt Bowen was effective coming off the edge on blitzes and providing high-impact hits in run support last season. Ryan Clark was an excellent backup when Bowen was injured, showing great recognition skills and closing ability in run support..."

Unit Analysis:
Defensive Ends:

Washington Redskins: "C - Starters Renaldo Wynn and Philp Daniels lack pure pass-rushing skills."

Well I agree with this assessment but I think the grade leaves other factors out. We had probably the best pass-rushing back 7 in the league last year and that was without Lavar! They were expected to be storng against the run and use brute force to shrink the pocket. While they don't have anyone with great quickness and technique to get open looks at the QB they do have a slew of guys with tremendous strength that can win battles with o-line and cause pocket issues. I think that is more than adequate for their defense.

I too, would like to see a better front pass rush. We DID get burned by some big plays last year.

*cough* Cowboys *cough*

Just an FYI, that will chap my ass til the day I die.

The Cowbitches game (last one of the year) was a sucker play, the d backs bit and paid for it. Pass rush wasn't strong then but i'm betting it'll be better this season.

Definitely. I want the game to be a blowout too... OR a heartbreaking loss for the Boys just like ours, twice.

wE DO NEED SOME de TO GET A PASS RUSH... If we would have we wouldn't have to be so agressive using other players (CB) to get sacks and maybe a play like that Cowboy game wouldn't have happened...

Re: Sporting News Magazine...

The Cowboy play happened because for the first time all game we only rushed our line and gave Vinny too much time.

DEs are expensive and hard to gauge in the draft. FRPLG explained perfectly what our lines job is and they do a great job of that!

Yep, Malcom.....every time we lose to the Cryboys dagger in my heart...and to add insult to injury, since I'm living in Texas I get bashed and trashed by everyone. Hopefully we can get a win against them this year so it will be my turn to have some fun.....

But dude, you KNOW all they'll say is, "Well we beat you like 100 times in a row."

Anyone know the all-time series score between the Skins and Cowboys?

You still need to get a good push with you D line. I like the fact that we have good schemes and caan have our DB lead the team in sacks (or share the lead) but how great would it be to have a 12-14 sack guy on the line year in and year out. Getting that kind of push with the D line helps in pass coverage and can let you attack differently with other positions, not rely on them for sacks.

Its not good. I'm not postive on the numbers, but I'm pretty sure Dallas is up on us by over 20 games.
