Get Muhummad Wilkerson At All Costs
With the signing of Norman, the Redskins top priority now should be getting Muhummad Wilkerson no matter the cost. Snyder has the money. The guy is an elite pass rusher. Not on the level of JJ Watt or Von Miller, but enough of a force to change the outcome of a game. You can have as many Josh Normans and Richard Shermans in the backfield as you want, but without a consistent disruptive pass rush, it means absolutely nothing.
This defense needs at least 1 elite pass rusher up front or our defense will always lose the field position battle and struggle to get off the field. Ryan Kerrigan, Junior Gallette, Preston Smith, a player from this years draft will not solve that issue. Sure, they may help or even show flashes but none of them will fill the void of a proven 6'-4" 315 lb disruptive pass rusher who changes the flow of the game consistently (not just coverage sacks). This has already been proven by Carolina and Denver. Sure there is a way to get Wilkerson in here for what he wants while finding a way to restructure, cut some guys (Garcon, Roberts etc.) if need be. Some may be hesitant to commit such a large amount of money by having flashbacks of Haynesworth or looking at Suh's deal, however with this high risk is high reward. |

Re: Get Muhummad Wilkerson At All Costs
ummm ... no.
Wilkerson is great, but we did the big reach to get Norman and we are going to be finagling things next year to get folks signed. Yes, yes, I know ... Schneed10 says it's all okay, and I believe him. Norman's situation, however, is completely from the problems obtaining Wilkerson presents. You simply cannot build for long-term success by signing other guys stars at top tier prices ... jeez, haven't we learned this? Finding a way to add a Norman when he falls into our lap (or DJax or Gallette for that matter) is one thing. Selling the ranch to get other teams' stars is another. |

Re: Get Muhummad Wilkerson At All Costs
3 problems
1) the Jets are not going to trade him 2) the Redskins will have to send the Jets several picks and or players 3) Snyder may have money, but the Redskins have limited Cap room |

Moderators, tear down this thread

Re: Get Muhummad Wilkerson At All Costs
Lol, we didn't need to give up picks to get Norman.... At the very least you can't give a guy 50 million in guarantees AND give up draft picks.

Re: Get Muhummad Wilkerson At All Costs
Maybe if we give up our next 3 first rounders and our second rounder this year they'll listen!

Some people are still stuck in the Vinny days apparently.

And the premise of the thread -- that as between Kerrigan (9.5 sacks, despite multiple injuries), P. Smith (8 sacks, led rookies), and Gallette (10 sacks in 2014) -- we cannot have an elite pass rush is also dubious. I think we need help with run stuffing more than a pass rush, at this point. QB pressure from the line would surely be great (and Baker had a pretty solid 2015 -- 6 sacks from Swaggy), but this D is focused on the LBs getting to the QB.
As far as I am concerned, bring on the draft and let's go get some DT, S, C, ILB, and RB help. |
