All things Jay Gruden thread (2016)
Entering his 3rd season as HC it's a huge year for Jay, I'm a fan and have been a big supporter of his and I believe he's the guy that will take us to even greater heights in '16.. What are your thoughts on Jay? Seems like the guys all love him.

i didn't like gruden at first but last season changed my tune. let's see what he can do with an improved roster after winning the division last year.
do we agree our roster has improved? |

Re: All things Jay Gruden thread (2016)
It's so hard to say how much of our improvement has been McCloughan and how much has been Jay and his staff. The answer of course is both, but how much McC, and how much Jay?
The depth is so much better. At the same time guys like Nsekhe and Dunbar have improved since they've been here, that's a credit to coaching/teaching. Overall very happy with Jay, McVay, Callahan and the rest of the offensive staff (though Jay, McVay and Callahan are the ones that really matter). Defensive staff, jury's still out for me. Breeland has gotten so much better, I'll give them that one. Will Compton, another one. Spaight looks good too. But I need to see them stronger along the D Line to believe the coaching is adequate at that spot. |
Re: All things Jay Gruden thread (2016)
The thing is as long as Scott M is in the house we will alway have Jay g. level coaches. We won't be be able to lure big name coaches because they ill want the GM position as well(probs a good thing).
With that said I think Jay is a good fit for us, gets it done on the field and is not in Scott M's way. This is more Scott M's team then Jay's and I am totally fine with that. I will agree this is Joe Barry's prove it year especially with the add of Norman. I have been less then impressed with Barry. |
Re: All things Jay Gruden thread (2016)
^ definitely don't agree, plenty of coaches like having a strong GM, not every coach wants both roles

Re: All things Jay Gruden thread (2016)
You look around the league and see very few coaches who took on the personnel role in a successful way. Not sure why a coach would want to do both. Where do they find the time?

Fair enough. I agree witrh u. If u can JAy I just really don't know who is out there but i am sure Scott M. knows. |
Re: All things Jay Gruden thread (2016)
Pete Carroll, no GM role. Mike McCarthy, no GM role. Bruce Arians, no GM role. Ron Rivera, no GM role.

Re: All things Jay Gruden thread (2016)
John Harbaugh recently won a SB, no GM role.

Re: All things Jay Gruden thread (2016)
I think Gruden is a better coach now then he was in 2014. At times he looked in over his head in 2014. But let's not forget the staff had some piss poor games last year. Atlanta comes to mind, as does the home game against Dallas.
Joe Barry really does nothing for me as a DC. I think we can do better there. |
