Andy Pollin, Tim Murray, Nick Ashoo out at ESPN 980
Any other 980 listeners on here wanna weigh in?
Personally not a big fan of Pollin, to me he just never really brought anything to the table except his impressive knowledge of Skins history and for the most part he managed to make even that boring to listen to. The one thing is he and Czabe have great chemistry and their back and forth was pretty entertaining at times. But I only listened to that show for Czabe, I'm sure whatever he ends up doing will be just as good as the Sports Reporters. Pollin seems like a nice guy though, wish him the best As for Murray and Ashoo's show, they were very fan-ish in most of their sports takes, but they were entertaining and easy to listen to. I liked how they branched out and werent afraid to talk about stuff completely non sports related. But Im younger, I'd like to hear what some older folks thought of their show |

You hit the nail on the head. The chemistry was fantastic but I think you are underestimating his contribution. He brought just the right amount of subtle snark to offset the flamboyant ridiculousness of Czabe.
Will really miss him. I never listened to the other guys. |
Re: Andy Pollin, Tim Murray, Nick Ashoo out at ESPN 980
Collectively they are a great duo, if you have to keep one or the other I would take Czabe every time. Pollin was just boring to me
I didnt listen today, but I read somewhere Czabe alluded to them reuniting him with Linn and Steve Solomon for the new show? I never listened to their national show but I imagine those three together would be a winner |
Re: Andy Pollin, Tim Murray, Nick Ashoo out at ESPN 980
I've known Pollin since the birth of WTEM in the early 90's. I use to know a ton of people over there and they've all moved on. I'm surprised that he made it as long as he did, cause no one in radio lasts that long in one place.
980 struggles with ratings, especially when it's not football season. That in turn hurts their bottom line. And now since there are two local sports talk stations in the market it's cut throat. I'm sure they're trying to save money anyway they can. They were already cutting back his airtime anyway. But personally I think they need new blood over there. I do business with them a few times a year and they just don't have the air talent. Outside of Cooley and Kevin I don't even turn it on anymore. Doc and B Mitch are just tired and old. Especially Doc and his caveman, 2 yards and a cloud of dust talk. Riggins is also old and stale. Portis sounds retarded on the air. They need to do a better job of appealing to the younger generation of Washington sports fans, but get talent that can actually bring good content, like Cooley does... and that obviously isn't Pollin. |
Re: Andy Pollin, Tim Murray, Nick Ashoo out at ESPN 980
I listen to 980 all the time when driving I would honestly have to hear the voices of the dearly departed to know who they were. Other than the game broadcast team, I don't associate voices with names other than maybe B-Mitch, Galdi and Riggins.

Their programming is old and not exciting. They should give Portis and Moss a show with Czabe.

Agree. The only show I regularly listen to is Cooley and Kevin, and thats just because as an out of market Skins fan with no care for DC's other sports teams Redskins talk is the sole reason I listen, and they do it better than anyone. Cooleys inside info/speculation is just good stuff and his film breakdowns are excellent. Kevins good also when he's not repeating his same old tired points on Cousins. I listened semi-regularly to the Sports Reporters for Czabe, every other show I only listen to occasionally in podcast form if they talked about something interesting. I never listen to Doc, B mitch, and Jackson, that show is just horrible I disagree about Riggins though, I always look forward to him being on |
Re: Andy Pollin, Tim Murray, Nick Ashoo out at ESPN 980
I am in Omaha and all I have is local Husker talk. It's Husker's 365. We have a Saturday morning show with former Huskers from the 94, 95, and 97 National Championship team. They talk about the glory days, and how the current team needs to be like the old team.
We have 2 sports channels, one is a NBC Sports based channel, and the other has some ESPN shows like Mike and Mike. I listen to the ESPN980 POD cast. I find myself only listening to Cooley and Kevin. The rest of the shows are ok, just not good enough to find the time to listen. I enjoy the hour with Riggins, but being in Omaha, i do not have years of him as a radio personality. I like Portis, when he is on Cooley and Kevin. In short, they all could suck, and I would listen, because I have nothing better. |

I enjoyed Pollin with Czabe, especially when Chris Knoche or Tom Loverro join in. I wish Andy well - I too have been a loyal listener, dating 25 years to the original WTEM.

Gonna miss Andy, but thought Tim and Nick were just meh. |
Re: Andy Pollin, Tim Murray, Nick Ashoo out at ESPN 980
I've been listening to the station for a few years. The Sports Reporters was my favorite, especially when Loverro was in the studio. Andy was a perfect foil for Czabe. I'm 45 years old so that show was right up my alley. Cooley and Kevin is my next favorite followed by Galdi's show. The other shows like Kornheiser and Inside the Locker Room never did it for me.
Best of luck to Andy and the others who got cut. |

I live stream Cooley and Kevin in the morning while getting ready and then download the posdcast portions on the Redskins that I don't hear and think they are fantastic, but really don't like anyone else on the station. I stream 106.7 in my office during football season but that is it (Skins are my only DC team I have always been a Braves fan and have adopted the Hawks in my 13 years here. Long story just to echo that I will not miss any of them and think that 680 needs a lot of new blood. |
Re: Andy Pollin, Tim Murray, Nick Ashoo out at ESPN 980
Love Czabans new show with Scot Linn and Solly. Linn is so much better with Czabe than his old partner Weinstein.. funnier and he shares his different opinions more, with Bram it seemed like he was just a yes man

I prefer Locker Room over static, since I live in Beaverdam and most Sports talk radio doesn't reach here I probably don't have very high standards. |
Re: Andy Pollin, Tim Murray, Nick Ashoo out at ESPN 980
Even though I have ESPN in my blood and CBS Radio (106.7 The Fan) once sent me walking, as a whole The Fan is way way better than 980.
