NFL Offseason Report Card...
June 17 issue of Sporting News.
"Redskins - The big news was swapping possino receivers, Laveranues Coles for Santana Moss, but we suspect they are actually the same person. Most of the improvement will come for the returns of injury casualties right tackle Jon Jansen and defensive end Phillip Daniels. But we're skeptical that middle linebacker Lemar Marshall and cornerback Walt Harris will adequately replace Antonio Pierce and Fred Smoot, both free agent losses. Grade: C+" |
Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
Too bad the issue was edited and came out before Holdman and the possible signing of McQuarters. They also didn't take Rogers into account.

Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
I think that coles for moss sage was the main reason. They are really the same person with the edge going to moss with intangibles. the guy is faster, quicker, return punts and most importantly he is from the "U". Buckle up ya'll seats and get ready for the gamebreaking changes that he will give us of which coles did not this past year. Carlos Rogers eventually will be better smoot. he is bigger, stronger and even faster than our beloved smoot. barrow or holdman will be an upgrade over (overrated pierce). the upcoming season will show yall that it was the system and coaching from lavar and barrow which made him more smarter on the field.

Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
"more smarter" LOL Sorry dude, I just had to point that out...

Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
I don't think Smoot was even that good, every single interception I've seen him have were really easy grabs usually off a tipped ball (look at the highlight film). The one hard one was against Joey Harrington where it was like 4th and 26 and Smoot got the interception but all it did was give us worse field position.

Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
I like Moss enough, loved him in college, but Coles PLAYS through his injuries. Moss has had a tough time staying on the field.
|
Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
Very true. Hopefully Moss can get some Gibbs' spirit instilled and play through injuries himself.
|
Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
I'll definitely miss Coles' toughness, but his attitude soured and you just can't have a guy like that in the locker room.
I'm still surprised at how things went down with him. If you would have told me last year at this time that Coles would want out at the end of the season and didn't want to play for Gibbs there's no way I would have believed it. But hey, that's over with now. Time to move on, time to see what Moss, Patten and Jacobs can do for us. |
Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
oh well he's gone now. it's time to move on, and i think moss will do just fine. we had a good offseason except for the league troubles, criminal cases, etc.

I seriously doubt that Lavar was the brains in that relationship. |
Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
coles does play through injuries but as far as breaking the game open for us it was not on of his stronger traits which i think there is way moss will help vastly.

Re: NFL Offseason Report Card...
I do not care who does it. I just want it to get done. All I care about is winning seasons. We have not been consistent in the win/loss column in over a decade and a half.

We showed that he was one under Spurrier (even after he injured his toe) and and the Jets will show that he still is. I'm sorry, but Gibbs' system was exactly conducive to making big plays and Brunell couldn't throw a 5-yard hitch route so he wasn't going to throw a bunch of 60 yarders. As much as I'm pissed that he left, I can still say that Coles was a stud. |
