Re: Unit Analysis: Offensive Tackles

those ratings are all whacked out... chiefs and ravens should both be top 5 afc, the packers lost 40% of their oline in the offseason and they're an A?

its like they rated olines just by looking at last years total pashing/rushing yards and calling it a day.

the article was just about Offensive Tackles not O line.... But I agree baltimore should have been in the top 5 with Ogden.

Re: Unit Analysis: Offensive Tackles

I think our rating is more than fair. Samuels is good but overrated according to most scouts and Jansen is coming off an entire missed year. B- seems high maybe

Our guys will prove their worth during the season. These types of reports are interesting and give us something to talk about during the off season but until the season starts they are irrelavent.

Samuels really needs to bring up his game a notch this year, especially after that fat contract.

Re: Unit Analysis: Offensive Tackles

it's hard to judge offensive lineman as individuals usually, just because all of the blocking is done as a unit, and the statistical ways to measure the success of the unit would be sacks allowed and yards per rush, but if you have a quick and mobile qb or a stud rb, its hard to tell how much of the success is due to what. it seems to me that most "premier" offensive lineman get by on name and reputation alone, which is why I think you see practically the same lineman in the probowl every year.

Jansen is coming off a missed year but is still a quality right tackle, and as for Samuels, I don't know about any of you but I swear he got beat a lot last year, way more than an all-pro should've. I don't know if he just had a bad year or is truly overrated, but he has to do a better job of protecting Patrick's blindside this year.

According to the stats (which are flawed), Samuels allowed 1 sack in 2004-05. That's not too shabby.

Re: Unit Analysis: Offensive Tackles

That note about a lack of quality depth seems a little odd to me. We re-signed Ray Brown, and Jim Molinaro and Mark Wilson both gained some valuable experience and played well last season. With Jansen healthy and playing alongside Thomas, we're set at right tackle. Samuels is decent on the left side and should only benefit from competition at LG. It seems like an A-/B+ would be more appropriate. :confused-

Bugel seemed to be pretty satisfied with Samuels' play last year, that's all I need to know.

yeah samuels didn't do bad, i would say he was good, but not great. with jansen back we should have a good o-line, we just need to see if dockery can step up his game this season.

OK - last time - Samuels gave up ONE sack last year. With an inconsistant player (Dockery) next to him, and a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator, and a new position coach. That's a great year, period.

I heard that Brett Favre lost weight and is in great shape, and I thought he worked hard on getting into condition because he will be running for his life without a decent OL. Sheesh......an "A" rating go figure who did they pick up or draft to merit that??????????????
