The season isn't lost. Yet...
I'll admit I'm trying to counter a lot of the negativity that's been cropping up. believe me, following this team for c. 40 years, I get it. But all is not lost, even if we lose again this week (likely). Last year wasn't a fluke, we have a core of good young players, maybe great in some instances, and a much improved ownership that is just getting its feet under the table. Yes there are hiccups like AP's handling of Scary's contract (which I feel has indirectly contributed to multiple problems, not just Terry's unavailability). But are we not glad we're not the Jets? The Titans? The Browns? The Dolphins?
Yes it's unlikely now, not least because of our schedule, but 2005, 2007, 2012, 2020 all saw us flip a losing record and make the playoffs. It's not impossible. let's have a little faith. Plus Mariota has a history with the Chiefs. As long as he throws a TD to himself 😁 |
Re: The season isn't lost. Yet...
Its not lost yet but if they drop to 3-5 (very likely) then you basically have to win out to make the playoffs in the NFC this yr.. JD5 not playing MNF kills the vibe for me.

Re: The season isn't lost. Yet...
They are staring the barrel of 3-7. Even with Jayden playing they just aren’t the same. He is wildly inaccurate this year. The defense is somehow worse than last year which is hard to believe. We have neither the talent nor the coaching to right this ship.
I will hope for the best but am expecting the worst. |
Re: The season isn't lost. Yet...
At 3-4, yeah if things turn around immediately. That’s unlikely. The offense will be better when everyone is back but the defense isn’t likely to improve.
We are getting crushed by Chiefs, to fall to 3-5. Seahawks are a better team right now, that would be a must win but I’ve seen nothing to convince me we win. A loss here would have us falling to 3-6 and at the trade deadline we could possibly sellers. A loss here also gives us 5 conference losses. The Lions are better and expect them to avenge their playoff losses. A loss here has us at 3-7 and 6 conference losses. If the fall to 3-7 actually happens; realistically playoffs are over. Will have to many conference losses. It’s alright to believe but I’ve seen nothing for me to believe. Last year was magical and everything seemed to work but this year everything that could go wrong has. There’s reason why there’s usually close to 5-6 team turnover in the playoffs year to year. 2024 we were the surprise and 2025 we’re not. Adam and Dan made a mistake trying to win it all now, think last year’s run meant we were close. We aren’t. Our players are old and slow. We need to be young and fast. 2024 was nice but realistically we are 2-3 offseasons away. We never should have traded for Lattimore. Also, some of Adam’s picks are starting look like they won’t work out. Daniels ability masked a lot of things. Build it right in 26,27 and you will be rewarded. |
Re: The season isn't lost. Yet...
This team had SB aspirations this year which were realistic considering how close they got last season, moves made, and a star qb in his 2nd season. That aspiration seems like a pipe dream now. Injuries have decimated this team tremendously. Sure things can turn around, but they better start now. An upset of the Chiefs would be a great start as unlikely as it seems.

Re: The season isn't lost. Yet...
This season may be a big disappointment, and injuries have been brutal. Not having your top 3 WRs, top 3 DEs, blocking TE, starting FS, starting RB, and QB for significant portions of the season is very difficult to recover, particularly when we're still trying to make up for years of poor drafting and FA decisions. Let's not forget, we're only in year 2 for this group. Even if this season ends up a disappointment, another year of talent acquisition could have us getting closer to building a contending team that will have some staying power, and that is the ultimate objective.
Last season was magical, but even if we have a step back this year but can keep the team moving forward in the near future, we're on a much better path than 24 years of Snyder. As for this season, I want to see some fight. And see some of our younger players get some reps to see what we have in them (of course, with the injuries, that may be by necessity). |

I remember someone said that we should not use injuries as an excuse and pointed to the 49ers team as an example. Lynch and Shanahan are now in their 8th year, so they had plenty of time to build the team that can withstand injuries. AP and Dan are now in the 2nd year and it's unrealistic for us to expect them to build a such team within 1.5 years. |
Re: The season isn't lost. Yet...
Just don't ever trust 1-word this coaching staff says. Especially about injuries. Whatever they say, just add at least 2 weeks onto it.

During last week I think Brady mentioned that he pulled one down and ran when he could've been more patient. I would also say that he doesn't have any wr's out there that are really getting open which also doesn't help. |

I think that was me (49ers) but what I was referring to is that injuries can't be used as an excuse to give up, not that we should be doing as well as the 49ers. Key difference for us is we've lost our top edge rushers and top WR's for a good proportion of the season to date, and our depth has just about kept us going rather than step into the breach. And agree with Skins; we've had too many drops. Ertz and Moore are 9th and 10th in drop %, McNichols not far behind, and of the top 10, Ertz is 3rd in targets. JD5 isn't the problem, he's still in the top half of the league, by rating, and our offense is in the top half on TD's. He missed (by my count) 3 passes v Dallas before he went out the game, and the INT v Chi was the only other pass I've seen that badly thrown when not under pressure. The Dallas game is still fresh in our minds and clouding the picture. The O isn't really the problem (though it isn't the solution either), its the D that's let us down. Injuries are a factor, but the standard of play has to improve. And this is where I'm, looking at Whitt. he doesn't seem to have them prepared and playing the right scheme for the opposition. There were at least 3 plays v Dallas I remember when he only rushed 4 and clearly should have blitzed. Without a rusher than could get in Prescott's face, he had all day and he picked us apart. Coverage doesn't help, but at least 2 of his passes were undefendable, and that's because he had the time to make the best throw. The players have to play better, sure, but the DC needs to call better plays to put them in position to perform better. |
Re: The season isn't lost. Yet...
Mariotta may surprise this week, but this season is on the defense's shoulder. With all the offensive turmoil the team still is 7th in pts per game. I do think Lattimore would have been benched sooner if Jonathon Jones had been healthy.
As for the rest of the season, the best bet is winning the division in the end of season round robin. I think that's doable, IF our defense gets on track. Sent from my SM-S711U using Tapatalk |

I admit, I'm still unsure about Whitt. I just find it hard to believe that Whitt is the sole reason why the defense is playing bad since the team did decent last year. Perhaps Whitt struggles to pivot to work around the injuries, he didn't deal with injuries last year. Letting Chinn go might be a mistake on AP's end. |

Quinn's suggesting they're making a lot of adjustments to the D to stop the mistakes and hesitation, and Whitt has said Magee will get more playing time. I'd say let's see before passing judgement either way, but at least they aren't burying their heads in the sand. |

Just tough with the defensive ends injuries but should be better than they've played. Will have a super tough test at KC.

Re: The season isn't lost. Yet...
The season hinges on JD5 health and new strategy on defense.
I think you need to try to rush the passer with Luvu and maybe more 3 high or quarters coverage. If they are gonna get beat in two high, non aggressive zone…then I rather them get beat with more zone blitz, aggressive play. |
