WR Gathers No Moss

Per Vic Carucci at NFL.Com:

With the notable exception of Reggie Wayne, none of the wide receivers from the first round of the 2001 NFL draft is with the team that drafted him: Freddie Mitchell (Philadelphia), David Terrell (Chicago), Koren Robinson (Seattle), Rod Gardner (Washington), and Santana Moss (New York Jets). With first-round picks being an investment for the future, these players would have to be viewed as busts. Whom do you see as having the best chance of making it back at a level expected of them when they were drafted?

I would have to go with Moss. His exceptional speed should make him a better fit in the Redskins' offense, which emphasizes vertical passing, than he was in the Jets' scheme, which featured more horizontal routes during Moss' time with New York.

And the Redskins are counting on Moss to be their primary deep threat. As long as he can stay healthy (and that is always a big question mark with him), he should make a significant impact. Besides being one of the fastest receivers in the league, Moss also has the ability to make quick cuts, good adjustments to the ball, and battle defenders for the catch.

Terrell also has a chance to be more productive with the New England Patriots than he was with the Bears because he will be surrounded by players and coaches who have set the highest standards for excellence. That atmosphere could be just what Terrell needs to begin realizing the tremendous potential that his large frame (6-foot-3 and 212 pounds) and game-breaking athleticism still provide at this make-or-break stage of his career.
