Thank god it's not just the Skins
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Titans' top draft pick, cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, surrendered to police Wednesday on charges of assault and vandalism stemming from a nightclub altercation. Jones surrendered to Nashville police at Titans headquarters Wednesday morning. Jones' lawyer Roger May said he had not seen the arrest warrants but has been told the charges are simple assault and vandalism. Both are misdemeanors.
Maybe I'm getting sensitive in my older age, but it always seems like my Skins are getting dumped on. I hate to take pleasure in another's pain, but, then again, they are only misdemeanors. |
Re: Thank god it's not just the Skins
How about Randy McMichael of the Dolphins charged with assaulting his wife...again! Terrible

Re: Thank god it's not just the Skins
What is wrong with these guys? I mean you're getting paid mad money and you still go out and do something stupid to embrass not only yourself, but your family, teammates, etc. This is getting out of hand all this off the field crap.

Great lawyer - "I don't know what they're charging you with, but i'd surrender if I were you." |
Re: Thank god it's not just the Skins
I don't get these guys either.. I know it's hard to walk in another man's shoes, but if I had that much that I could potentially lose, I'd probably be the biggest hermit/homebody the NFL had ever seen..

Re: Thank god it's not just the Skins
The NFL is just a cross-section of society.
There are bad apples in every walk of life. There are criminals at every level, look at Ebbers who just got 25 years for the WorldCom scandal (about damn time they started giving these white collar guys some hard time). |

That said, Ebbers, etc. committed crimes of greed, which I think are easier for us to understand than crimes of violence. Obviously I am not justifying what happened at Worldcom or Enron - I'm just saying that we don't see CEOs getting busted for misdemeanor assaults very often, and we rarely see an NFL player get busted for embezzlement. |
Re: Thank god it's not just the Skins
The bigger question is: What should the league do about it?
Maybe they should be more strict. It really does give a bad image of the NFL. With so many guys trying so hard to play in the league, these guys should be really grateful to be there and not mess things up for themselves. I think these guys feel they are untouchable--and to a certain extent, they are. |
Re: Thank god it's not just the Skins
my boy is from atlanta and grew up with Pac-man Jones. He said he is a wild boy who runs with a huge onteroge (did I spell that right), and looks to start trouble. He was at the club in Atlanta where Pac-Man and his crew jumped this big guy the size of a lineman and beat him to a pulp. No charges were filled ofcourse.

What they did at Enron ruined the lives of thousands of people by steeling their retirements. |
Re: Thank god it's not just the Skins
Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the site. To Mattyk72's point, the NFL is a cross-section of society as a whole, and there are good and bad people at every level. My only issue is whether you are hurting one at a bar or thousands at a major corporation or uncovering the indentity of a CIA opperative - one hurt is one too many. I think our moral judgements as a country are more of a cultural phenomenon than anything else. It's just amplified when we see celebrities or national figures in the midst of it. It's certainly possible that fame and money doesn't really change a person....it simply makes them more of what they already are.
But as far as the Pac-Man incident goes, how interesting would this story have been had he been available and drafted by the Redskins along with what's going on with ST! The press would have had a field day! |

Re: Thank god it's not just the Skins
I'm waiting to give the "I told you so" to all my Titans buddies. After reading the draft reports and knowing he had a low wonderlic score, I was fairly sure that I didn't want us to end up with him. After watching his interview with Suzy Colbert at the draft, I was convinced he was actually somewhat retarded. I'm actually serious. The guy is no smarter than a bag of doorknobs. Suzy would ask a simple question and he'd give some inaudible response. She would begin asking the next question and would start answering the last one. It took him that long to form sentences. She was pretty flustered. I've seen veteran boxers give interviews like that, but rarely football players. He also looked like 'lil John which was pretty funny.
