Coles' toe an issue already?
WR Laveranues Coles

pulled up lame near the end of practice yesterday afternoon (the lone full- squad session) and appeared to injure his right toe or foot. The extent of the injury is unknown. Coles walked gingerly off the practice field, though he took time to greet Edwards' pregnant wife, Lia.

Last season, Coles had an arthritic right big toe that nagged him all season. The Redskins wanted him to have surgery, but he refused, a disagreement that hastened his departure.

I'm not going to pile on the guy. I'm glad its a problem for the Jets and not the Redskins, but the guy needs surgery. Period. If he wants to get back to the level he was at with the Jets and the begining of his career here in Washington. He was a game breaker, bar none. He's not even close to that level anymore on a consistant basis.

Yeah, I'm not gonna' give him any crap either. He played hard and played tough for the Skins while he was here.

Re: Coles' toe an issue already?

Yep. It was wishful thinking for Coles to think that he could just deal with the toe injury by using an orthopedic device or brace. They tried everything for two full seasons here in Washington, and he was still having problems by the end of his tenure here. At some point you have to just get the toe fixed. I can understand his hesitation because there's a chance the surgery would end his career. But at this point, his career is being seriously hampered by this condition which isn't just going to go away.

At some point the choice needs to be made; do I want a shot at a healthy career while risking the chance that I'll never play again, or do I want a long career in which I'll only be a shadow of my former self.

I'm glad he faces that choice as a Jet and not a Skin. Welcome to the team, Santana.

Is it like, against his religion to have surgery? WTF? Or is it a surgery with a high risk of f’ing up his toe altogether?

Maybe this will convert him?

It's hard to doubt that the toe had something to do with his reduced production in RAC. He couldn't get the separation. If he does have the surgery, maybe the Jets will have gotten a good deal--if not, and the injury lingers, then the skins are going to look good here.

I liked Coles, but he didn't want to get on board. So good riddance. About the injury, some say that surgery is risky and could be career threatening. It's his foot, and his call, no doubt.

I'm so glad we made the trade. Now the Jets get toed and not us!What about all the people that said that Moss was a down grade a WR's. If his toe is an issue this year than maybe this bad looking trade (bad because of the money involved) may look sweeter than ever.

Re: Coles' toe an issue already?

The guy has made a fortune over the past couple years in signing bonus money...

Why not risk having the surgery now? It's not like he's hurting for money.

Either way, it's not our problem anymore.

He got a new deal I believe

Re: Coles' toe an issue already?

He got a new deal from the Jets with a signing bonus of approx. $8M.

Combine that with the $13M we gave him, and the guy has made over $21M in the past 3 seasons from bonuses alone.

Re: Coles' toe an issue already?

He should just ask Randy Moss if he can buy HIS legs with all that money.
