Champ Bailey
Did Anyone Catch That Int. That Bailey Had In Denver? Man I Love Portis But I Miss Champ Too.
|
Re: Champ Bailey
Champ is a great corner - make no mistake about that, but I still would make the Portis trade again.
|
Re: Champ Bailey
I love Champ but he's no Deion, not until he starts making plays like that on a regular basis. He's a great cover corner no doubt, but not the playmaker that Deion was in his prime.

Deion got torched yesterday. :FIREdevil I will always have hate Deion. Bailey is nto what he was but still above average, and I believe that Portis was definitely worth it. He's gonna get his yards this year. |
Re: Champ Bailey
That was an awful pass by Drew Brees and only Bailey's second career INT returned for a touchdown. He is a bit overrated IMO, but still great. Springs has been a tremendous replacement. Still love the trade. Smoot is the CB that is really really overrated IMO. When we let him and Pierce walk the media acted like our Defense was devastated. What a joke.

Re: Champ Bailey
I liked Bailey, but I believe we got the better end of the deal. The interception for the score wasn't as much Bailey's skill as it was a bad pass by Brees.

Re: Champ Bailey
It was definitely a bad pass by Brees. Champ is a better cover man than Springs, not by much, and Springs is a tremendous blitzer and run stuffer - plus he's a local guy!

When he entered free agency he sat there for awhile before anyone picked him up and I believe there were some other corners picked up before him. He is average to a little above average. I like Bailey but we have not missed him as a team.

Re: Champ Bailey
Bailey was great and I'd love to have him back, but not for 9 million a year or whatever. Come on now...
|
Re: Champ Bailey
Champ is good, but not worth the money he wanted from us. Smoot is less good than Champ and Springs, and not worth overpaying for, though I miss his mouth, I suppose. I think Carlos will be at this level, so I don't miss the guys.
Didn't see the Denver game, so I can't comment on the play. I was pulling for the CHargers on principle... |
Re: Champ Bailey
Highlight of the interception is on NFL.COM if you want to see it.

Re: Champ Bailey
Bottom line it comes down to Dollars and "sense". These guys were very good and talented, no doubt. But as far as running the team and making future acquisitions in the future it wasn't worth it.
We'll be in the market for more defensive line talent next year and we'll be glad we dumped those huge salaries they wanted. |
Re: Champ Bailey
He hit that ball so hard, it'd take three cheetah's to run him down!
|
Re: Champ Bailey
Champ is a better cover corner than Deion ever was. The reason he gets lumped below him is because he has less big play ability simply based on the fact that he never gets thrown on. Deion got thrown on more because he gambled. Now Deion was a fantastic corner who made up ground better than Champ can dream of but that helped him make big plays and big plays earn more respect than simply shutting down a receiver to the point that they never throw a pass his way. If I had to choose I'd take Deion in his prime because he actually put points on the board for you but if I wanted a guy who shut down part of the field with no questions asked and no frills then Champ is my guy all day.

Re: Champ Bailey
Yeah it was a give me interception and one that gave Champ a chance to sit and break on the ball. That damn pass the Redskins seem to love and I fear it is going to come to the point when a corner knows it is coming a couple times a game and sits on it and goes the other way. Nobody between the defender and the endzone. Spurrier and Gibbs ran that play alot.
