Portis puts "we" above "I"

In today's Washington Post article about Portis' lack of touchdowns (see http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/25/AR2005092501526.html ), Portis is quoted as saying, "As long as we're winning, I don't care how many yards I have." Wow! That really surprised me. He has yet to prove that he actually puts the team ahead of himself, but if what he says is true he is a damn mature man. Instead of saying, "Gimme the damn ball," he's willing to put the team ahead of himself. For someone who has been billed as an arrogant primmadonna, he sure sounds like a class act.

To me Portis has always come across as a team first guy.

Portis is beyond a team guy. check out the way he stays in and throws himself around blocking for the QB, you'd think it was a stat or something.

Yeah he doesn't get enough credit for being a pretty good backfield blocker. He sells out in everything he does, always gives 110%.

I read another good article about how Portis is happy to share snaps with Betts and respects his skills as a runner. After I read that article I had the same feeling that he was a real team player. When we first aquired Portis I thought he was just a guy who was concerned with his own stats but he is proven me wrong.

Portis has established himself as our leader (too bad Ramsey or Brunell haven't). I really feel lucky that we ended up with him on our team. PORTIS IS A TRUE REDSKIN!! :food-smil

Good point. Any RB that is willing to share snaps doesn't sound like a "me first" kinda dude. He has been a pleasant surprise from day one.

i think the majority of teams are now realizing the need for a backup RB that plays anywhere from a quarter to a third of the running snaps. it increases the shelf life of the star back, in addition to keeping him fresher during the game.

part of the reason ricky retired was the potential of wannstadt's system giving him the ball 40 times a game for the rest of his career (in addition to the sticky icky).

the other part was the inept passing game meaning he'd be facing 9 in the box every single play...
