TheWarpath.net is pleased to announce a new partnership with Tony McGee’s Pro Football Plus. Now in its 18th year, Tony McGee’s Pro Football Plus-hosted by former Redskin great Tony McGee-can be seen Saturday mornings at 11:30am on Comcast Sports Net and DirecTV by over 10 million viewers in DC, MD, VA, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

Each week Tony McGee’s Pro Football Plus television show will feature “TheWarpath.net Question of the Week” and Tony McGee will share online exclusively with TheWarpath.net his thoughts on the previous week’s game and a look ahead to next week. TheWarpath.net Front Office is happy to bring you this exclusive commentary from a former NFL player.

Tony’s Thoughts on Skins vs KC:

Offense:

The playcalling for Portis-- and the running game in general-- left something to be desired. Injuries are a factor right now (Portis was hampered by his lower leg injuries, and Betts was out for the game), but Portis is a game-breaking runningback and the Redskins simply aren't maximizing his potential.

That being said, the offense as a whole is showing great strides. Brunell is a good decision-maker, but he needs some help-- from someone not named Santana Moss-- to really get the offense over the hump. Someone needs to step up as the #2 receiver. Expect David Patten to start to play more of a prominent role over the next few weeks. Taylor Jacobs has the talent, but hasn't proven he can be counted on consistently. The team lacks a big receiver for crossing routes and making that tough catch over the middle.

All Santana Moss needed was a chance to be "The Guy". He’s showing this year that he can be one of the game’s elite players when healthy and given the opportunity to shine.

Defense:

Simply put, this defense needs to generate more sacks and turnovers. The defense appears to be playing at its max ability. They need a difference-maker... his name is LaVar. Whatever differences they have, they need to come to a compromise. Every team has to have a difference-maker that forces opponents to adjust their scheme and take them out of their comfort zone. If you have any Super Bowl aspirations you must have players who can turn games around on one play. LaVar is that kind of player.

Opponents are throwing in a lot of multiple-receiver sets that don't allow the Redskins to blitz. That means someone has to step up on the front four or front seven and generate a pass rush. The Skins have solid players on the front seven, but-- with the possible exception of Marcus Washington-- no true difference-makers.

Warrick Holdman is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. He's a solid base-defense player: Good against the run. Not much of a pass rusher. He does his job well, but doesn't necessarily create plays.

Marcus Washington, on the other hand, can be a playmaker. He would have caught Priest Holmes on that long screen pass if his own player didn't knock him out of the way. This guy has outstanding speed.

Keys next week against the 49ers:

-Establish the running game early
-Someone needs to step up as the definitive #2 receiver

Final Thoughts:

-This Redskins team is good enough to be 5-0 right now. They've been victims of some bad calls and costly turnovers.

###########

Tony McGee's NFL career started in 1971 where he was a starting defensive end for the Chicago Bears. In 1974, Tony began a 7 year stint with the New England Patriots and earned the nickname, "Mac the Sack." His unique ability to swarm opposing quarterbacks helped coin the phrase, "designated pass rusher." Tony's career as a Washington Redskin began in 1982, and included a Super Bowl championship. Tony ended his spectacular career in 1985 with 106 career sacks and played in over 200 games -- a feat achieved only by a select group of NFL defensive linemen.

Glad to hear about this as Tony' show has and is still one of my favorites.
One note of caution. Over at extreme, when they cut the deal wth the devil, (Snyder or Swanson depending on which one you think that is) they are now fending off all threads and warning of banning people cause they have lost controll. The Lavar thread has blossomed into a real monster. The skins also have already used them on the whole George S. thing. So while this is a good thing I ask that the Mods please protect the site from over commericalism.

That's a great point, CRT3, and I can assure you, the Warpath staff certainly has the independent integrity of this site in mind whenever we discuss doing something like this.

While we've agreed to help promote Tony's show by prominently linking his site on TheWarpath.net, we haven't made-- nor will we ever make-- any agreements with any outside parties that would compromise editorial control of our forums, or alter the overall appearance, atmosphere and quality of our site.

Many members of the Redskins media, such as Tony, are familiar with the poor manner in which the Redskins handled the fan website situation during training camp, and I think they empathize with us. The Redskins alienated and ostracized the staffs of TheWarpath.net, TheHogs.net and HailRedskins.com, and perhaps in doing so, they thought the independent sites would simply fade into oblivion. By forming partnerships with established media personalities like Tony McGee, we not only augment our coverage of the team, but we fortify our standing among the Redskins fan base as one of the best sources for independent Redskins coverage, and ensure that TheWarpath.net will continue in that role for many years to come.

It may also surprise you to know (as it did me) that many people consider our original content and (typically) respectful tone to be a standout feature of the site. As much as we are all very excited about our partnership with Tony McGee, all the moderators here know that the real value in this site is with our quality membership and the hard work and deep thought that you all put into your posts.

Now, back to my favorite pie...
